Laptop stops everything because of the game
« on: January 20, 2009, 09:10:14 pm »
Hey.
My problem is that whenever I'm playing for about 10 minutes or so, the game will just stop, my mouse and keyboard will disable themselves mostly and I can't do much until it goes back to normal which can take quite a lot of time.

It also finds a way of minimizing the screen and moving it always to the top left-hand side corner of my screen.

The only way I've worked out how to stop this everytime it works is press the power button on my laptop and get my power-off menu up, use the arrows to go down to cancel, press enter when cancel is highlighted and then it should return with a couple seconds thereafter.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10, I have enough RAM and large enough CPU for the game as I've already checked this too.

Rogue powersave? Overheating gfx? Accidentially pressing keys by using the touchpad (which often is so "soft" that it activates nearby keys)

It might be the power-saving actually as it's turned itself off twice, each time just after this happens.
How do I edit this to make it last longer?

Assuming you are using Gnome for the desktop, try to find a gnome utility that is used to set powersaving states or that has a blacklist. If it has put tremulous into the blacklist, so whenever you run tremulous it will not go to sleep (On a KDE desktop this is usually done with "kpowersave").

Uhm. I don't really know to be honest with you.
I'm using Ubuntu V8.10 if that helps.
Do you know of one which will work for me?

Its your screen-saver.
Things that try to steal focus don't work well with full-screen 3d apps, the screen-saver steals the mouse and keyboard, the game keeps the screen.
