Sokolov used almost exclusively from Soc'd Tech1 set. So did Uncreation.

You don't need never-before-used textures to look original.

Khalsa, what's the problem? Let people use any textures they want. If they fail to produce something interesting, well, they fail. It's not like you're going to turn down a map with excellent gameplay just because it uses well know textures, is it? And on the other hand, if a map uses all brand-new textures it doesn't guarantee it won't suck in every other way.
New to Tremulous? Look up the Wraths Newbie Server in the in-game server list.

Its a competition Khalsa created. Let him choose the rules. If you are too lazy, busy, or stubborn to participate then don't. No need to post over and over how having only non-default textures is harder then using the defaults. We all know its harder, it's a harder competition than ussual.
   
    I personnally like the idea and on planning on redesigning and re-texturing my current map to make it less default and more unique. I also am doing something which I don't think I have seen before on any map other than dretchcannon, I am using NO pipes! on top of my non-default textures :D

Essentially, all this mean is that you can't touch anything by Evillair or Ydnar, Sock's tech set, as well as a few other textures from Strangefate/jex/godmil, etc. It's not that hard  ::)

Just submit a unique looking map and you win (though right now it doesn't look like there will be any winners since there hasn't been enough signups to activate the contest)

odd how TRaK puts HIS textures link at the bottom ;)

I already have half of those tex's, including TRaK's with some shaders I had to write up myself since TRaK doesn't do it himself ;)
(no im not sharing :P)

Another good way to get textures WITH shaders is to download maps made for other Q3 games, e.g. Quake 3, Starwars Jedi Knights: Outcast/Academy, ect.

Why yes, yes they are  ;D

I've found that TRaK's texture sets make good replacements for much of the evil6 and evil8 spam in my maps. The .psd sources have been useful for making a few custom versions of some of them.

If you are lazy/efficient you could just download one of the existing maps that use non-default textures, and use the textures from them. For example cleanser and sectorb17 dont use any (or very few...iirc) stock textures - here: http://spacetaken.net/maps/.

Well seeing as there were not enough signups to activate the competition, it will not move forward :(

Maybe I'll try again sometime in the future with better prizes or something.

OK just FYI,

Taiyo.uk was the only entrant into the competition, so as a thanks I wanted to give him one of the first prize items (Mofrag shirt, webhosting, gameserver, surprise box.) When I went to offer it to him, he was uber cool and declined, and instead asked that I give it to TRaK in thanks for his awesome textures.

So Congratulations Taiyo.uk and TRaK for being two really cool kids and making Tremulous a cooler place with it. I hope TRaK enjoys his gift from Taiyo and myself!
