mysterious exploding egg syndrome

Hey all,  first of all -- longtime lurker, first time poster.  Certainly longtime Trem player (formerly "omg n00b", before switching to my current and better-known namesake).

Anyway, some of you might've seen me pose this question in-game, because I have seen it happen several (5+) times.  I'm asking here, though, cuz no one else has generally seen it, and I didn't find anything on the forums about it.

Anyway - long story short, as a granger, I'll sometimes build a structure, and then outta nowhere, it spontaneously combusts. No, there are no other creatures around to teamkill it, and no, there are no humans around to blast it.  It just -- explodes, seemingly randomly.

I have noted the following, however:
* I've only seen it happen with eggs
* It generally occurs within thirty seconds of being built
* I've almost only ever seen it occur on Beer Garden -- the one time I saw it elsewhere was on the db test map server.
* There is one other odd coincidence, but I won't post it here right now -- it's not at all accusatory, by it might be interepreted by some to be, so I won't talk about it right now...as it stands, I want to observe a little more before publicly posting it.

Anyway -- like I said before, whenever I've asked, no one else generally had seen it, but I was on the other day and someone else mentioned the same thing.

Oh, and also, generally speaking, this doesn't seem to be a glitch of "builds being too close to one another" or anything -- usually it has occurred when eggs are pretty much standalone, although I did see one explode one time when I build an ovm right next to an existing egg.

Any ideas, anyone?  I did see a reference in the Maps subforum about things exploding if they breached over some brush border stuff, but I don't know enough about mapping to know if we're talking about the same thing,.  In any case, hopefully the stuff above's enough "QA" for the developers to look into... at least until I happen to catch it on a record or something.

I have seen this phenomenon.
I rember the blood room on Transit. Once I build it too close to the corner; there is a diagonal wall. And once I placed an egg just next to the grid on the other side to the door upstairs.
On Uncreation I have build an egg between the first stairs and the wall. I think it always explodes in this location. I now put it on the one stair and not to the ground between stair and wall.
Maybe it's not enough room for the eggs... I know, it is checked before, but... you never know :D
Seen on other maps, too. But don't rember in which location.

PS: If I place a booster under some egg in low rooms, it will explode...

now teedz when u place eggs do u place them in wide open space...not that one would place one in the middle of a wide open room but are they fairly away from walls and low ceiling areas??

when building eggs u have to build when its green but when its done building or while building the bounding box of the egg might come in contact with walls or maybe clipped object( idk ) and with the egg needing to reach its size and not being able to the egg is destroyed.. happens with telendes sometimes... also building objects next to others might cause them to explode..

as said by bsel if u build egg under stairs in transit upside down and then build booster under it the booster bounding box comes with contact with the egg bounding box and either the booster or egg will be destroyed..

I think the eggs self-destruct if they are placed in low-cieling area ... I realised that after eggs kept blowing up in tight quarters ... when I moved them out a bit it don't happen anymore ... I could be wrong ?

As far as I know exploding Eggpod means Eggpod is stuck.

Barricades eat eggs for breakfast (no pun intended).  Their bounding box grows when they are done growing causing neighboring eggs to self destruct.  That's the most common cause of exploding egg syndrome that I've noticed anyway.

Seen it happen... sucks badly... Anything you can do to check bounding boxes before placing, TJW?

I've seen it happening in AKKA, mostly while playing in ATCS.

When building the egg on the ceiling, near a corner

I guess is something related to building near a wall, or who knows..

AFAIK Its more like a feature for when eggs are built too close to walls, this is so the players don't end up spawning into walls.

Well, if the computer knows it is to close to a wall, why not let the human player know by making it impossible to build there in the first place...

This happens when 2 structures are stacked too close together. To fix it, move a safe distance away, usually 1 or 2 game feet, and build again.

Happens to humans, aliens, etc. Happens with armory, booster, etc

Alien structures explode when:

1. There is no "creep", i.e. If there are no eggs or overmind  nearby. So if you build an egg away from base and some tubes near it, then decon the egg, the tubes will explode.

2. (eggs only) The egg is built in such a position that people can spawn into walls. The egg will build then immediatly explode on completion. Often you will see it drop or move by a small ammount immediatly after placement. Acid tubes will do the same but will not explode, this is how people can hide tubes inside pipework and some walls.

3. You build one structure too close to another. I've only seen then when building an overmind, e.g. If I build it too close to an egg (so that people will spawn into the om) then the egg will explode.

This happens when you build the eggs at an angle, or from the ceiling. If there is a wall near the ceiling, the computer prevents glitching by making the egg explode.

Sometimes it sucks in Nirvana and the like when aliens are on the run from humans.
