1.2

I don't think it should even be a .1 incremental release. I honestly think, with all the new features and models they're adding, it should just be made Tremulous 2.0 or something like that. But whatever, this is just my random opinion.
My in game name is Maggot.
I usually play on DretchStorm, but I also sometimes play on DretchTsunami and uBP.

There are barely any new features or models. Making it 2.0 would make people expect a lot from the new version, but they will only get a tiny improvement.

There will be new models (some things will be replaced, most won't, but there'll also be new models for some new minor features), and even though I've tried to retain the "feel" and intentions of Tremulous, the gameplay is different in almost every area (to varying degrees). And whatever you mean by "barely", Amanieu, is debatable and subjective, but I'm all for lowering expectations (they're already unfortunately high after having gone so long between releases) so I'm sure we'll stick to "1.2". Versioning schemes are only internally meaningful anyway.

And Unanimated, if you haven't tried the gameplay changes yet we have testing games every Saturday at 20:00 UTC, alternating between a US and European server. I update this thread (check the last page of posts every time) every week before the game starts to remind everyone of the details.

What I meant was that typically major releases mean that a very big change has been made, such as switching to a new renderer, or a new engine.

I also think that shoould be 2.0 atleast because it is incompatible with current servers. But, who cares. For example arcade emulator MAME had now version 0.129 when 0.1 was released in 05 Feb 1997. I don't see anything wrong in numbering 2.0, 3.0, 10.0, 50.0.

David

IMO it should be 1.2 as its the same engine.
If every little incompatibility got a new version, we would be numbering it after the SVN revisions...

I'm disappointed that people's past actions have forced me to state what should be obvious.

Why not?

David

Well the version field does say the svn revision.
However this is a mailstone release, so should get a more memorable name, and its based on 1.1, so 1.2 makes a lot of sense to me.

We would need something even bigger like a new engine as other people have said to truly make it 2.0.

Besides, if we changed it to Tremulous 2.0 than 1.2 really would never come out!

Version numbers should double at each release.

1.1
2.2
4.4
8.8
16.16
32.32
64.64
128.128

etc.

and i am VERY stupid.

Like I said, versioning schemes are only internally meaningful. For us, the changes going into 1.2 are (by definition, since we're simply deciding to call the next version 1.2) what qualify as a +0.1 release.

I got an idea, lets just call it "Tremulous: The pwnzor game you phail at."

CreatureofHell

damn you! I was thinking about calling it Tremulous: blah blah blah but you just got here before me!  ;)
