Procedurally generated music?
« on: February 01, 2009, 11:31:45 pm »
Im thinking it would be sort of neat to have music generated thru the use of a collection of loops overlayed on each other. Which loops were played, and at what key and tempo would be modified based on team, stage, class, and sudden death value.

This would be completely client-side, of course.

Pfft at coding. Do you realise how much recording would need to be done for this? How much it would bump up download size? Sure, it would be cool (despite the fact that you may not hear the dretch jumping behind you), but some poor bugger is going to have to sit down and record countless loops for this, if you wanted to make it in the least bit good.

And yeah, coding this would be a bitch.

I think it wouldnt be that hard. if we have 3 melodies, one for each stage, we could play them on different voices for each team. Then speed up the tempo for sudden death, and there you have it.

And about the dretch, I believe there already is a meter in the options called 'music volume'

I demand built-in radio for aliens. Each alien you drive has a seperate radio station tuned-in... Oh wait -

Didn't I answer to the first post in this thread?

Also, my answer was a reference to the awesome GTA-built-in-radio-station-switching-car-tune-O-matic.

I think the sound the code you are describing would generate would be similar to opening non sound files in Audacity.

this is possibly the best idea ever suggested in the history of best suggestions. ever. BUT, it would only be the best idea ever suggested in the history of best suggestions IF... it was all kick-ass death metal. we need to pump in some Lamb Of God, Parkway Drive, Avenged Sevenfold, Sonic Syndicate, Soilwork, Inflames and Bullet For My Valentine. if i were to be dretching while listening to some of that stuff, i would be able to single handedly destroy both alien and human bases. (dont ask how or why) and im not even that good at dretching. this will be purely based on the maths. Death Metal+Gaming=PWNAGE BEYOND BELIEF!

why dont i just play itunes while tremmin' you say? why thats because with my 300+ ping, i dont need itunes bumping it up to 400+. >=(. there are at least 50 people at my school here in australia who play tremulous. i know many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many  others who play tremulous in australia. please cater for our aussie gaming needs. the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 21st, 25th and 32nd best halo players in the world arent aussie for no reason. cater for our aussie gamers please tremulous! ( i know this is a random other topic, but im on a roll. plus im high). anywaaaays, this would be the best idea ever imagined. and one more thing, @ the developers of tremulous>  by making 'quote: 99.9% of the game from coding' you have made it impossibly difficult for us regular joes tot help you expand the game. this is simply because, it was a gay idea and not many people can code. im quite certain there are plenty of people willing to help you develop your game, but you made it from coding, which people dont understand.

another random rant from: frazzler.
