April 1st idea for servers

I'm not 100% sure if this is possible, but bear with me. I noticed that servers can introduce stuff, including models, for people to download before connecting. And after reading this thread I got a fun idea for April 1st: a server that replaces all structure models with different stuff for that one day. So when people connect and play they'll get a soda machine instead of armoury, a shower instead of medistation, garden gnomes instead of turrets, you get the idea. I think it would be good for laughs.

Got fun ideas for any structures? And, more importantly, how can we get such models?

The topic will be buried and forgotten by then.  Besides, many of the people who play Tremulous don't even visit this forum.

I don't admin a server, so it was mainly for the benefit of others. And it may take a while to locate proper models, in case anybody wants to do this, so an early heads up will help.

But for what it's worth I'm considering installing a local server (mainly for the bots) so I may still get back to you with feedback on this idea.

99% of clients don't have downloads enabled, so doing this will cause you to not have many players.

Any noob who plays on the letter servers (X, M, A) has apparently figured out how to turn on autodownload... I don't think you give people enough credit.

I'm not sure it would work for the player models, but it's a pretty neat idea for the structures. Plus it doesn't require any new models. Don't know about downloads though ie. can they simply be switched around or need to be downloaded.

But, as previously noted, people shouldn't have problems with auto-download. The only issue would be the slow download speed of the 1.1 client, but structure models would be small anyway (right?).

Depends what use of the term "model" you're looking for.

last april first i did something fun on puretremulous...
and all i can say is that you need to be more creative.
if i have time to implement what i had in mind then april first on mgdev should be fun and chaotic.
