common server error that i cant seam to fix
« on: March 03, 2009, 02:36:42 am »
I want to host a normal server so i donwloaded Lakitu7's qvm and the tremed from mercenarys guild.net after downloading i placed the qvm in C:\Documents and Settings\cactusfrog\Application Data\Tremulous\base\vm and the tremed in C:\documents and settings\cactusfrog\application data\tremulous
i then ran my tremserver.bat which contained the  following code
Code: [Select]
tremded.x86.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +set net_port 32123 +set fs_homepath C:\Documents and Settings\cactusfrog\Application Data\Tremulous\base
after running that i got the extreamly common ERROR: G_ParseSpawnVars: found ? when expecting { error. So i contacted latitu7 and he told me that they should be compatible so i went on the irc for additonal help and this happened

cactusfrog this is the converstation i just had with lakitu7
cactusfrog (6:07:53 PM) acactusfrog: i am looking for a compatible tremed.exe with your qvm
cactusfrog (6:08:12 PM) acactusfrog: i tried downlaoding this
cactusfrog (6:08:14 PM) acactusfrog: this
cactusfrog http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/tremded/
cactusfrog and this
cactusfrog http://patches.mercenariesguild.net/index.php?do=details&task_id=198
cactusfrog (6:08:25 PM) acactusfrog: but they are not compatible
cactusfrog (6:08:35 PM) acactusfrog: i would like to use your qvm
cactusfrog (6:08:44 PM) acactusfrog: so can you send me the link to one that is compatible
cactusfrog (6:11:09 PM) Lakitu7: they're compatable however you should be using the newer stuff at projects.mercenariesguild.net/
cactusfrog (6:18:26 PM) acactusfrog: they are not compatible though i get this error when i run tremserver.bat
cactusfrog g_sarsespawnnvars: found [box] when expecting
cactusfrog (6:18:32 PM) acactusfrog: {
cactusfrog (6:18:49 PM) acactusfrog: ERROR: G_ParseSpawnVars: found ? when expecting {
cactusfrog (6:19:30 PM) Lakitu7: they're compatable. You have thingsin the wrong places. I'm pressed for time today, sorry, you'll have to search the forums for any one of the many topics that help with this
cactusfrog (6:20:22 PM) acactusfrog: but i have +et fs_homepath C:\Documents and Settings\Dexter Antonio\Application Data\Tremulous\base in the tremed.bat
cactusfrog (6:20:29 PM) acactusfrog: +set
cactusfrog (6:20:34 PM) acactusfrog: i mean
cactusfrog (6:21:06 PM) acactusfrog: all go on tremulous irc
06:24 kevlarman sets mode +b *!*=cactusfr@*.hsd1.ca.comcast.net
kevlarman has kicked you from the chat room (Reason: kevlarman)]
I then searched the forum for this error but only found people who had properly followed the windows server guide and downloaded the mismatched qvm and tremed the guide sugeusted.
So does anyone know why this isn't working?

you don't specify base in your homepath

ok i changed the location of tremed.exe to c:\program files\tremulous
I chagned the location of the server.cfg to c:\program files\tremulous\base
i changed the location of the mapconfig.cfg to c:\program files\tremulous\base
i moved the maps to c:\program files\tremulous\base
and i got rid of the base in the home path
tremded.x86.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +set net_port 32123 +set fs_homepath C:\Documents and Settings\cactusfrog\Application Data\Tremulous\base
yet it still doesn't work wtf! HOW DO I TELL THE TREMED TO LOOK FOR THE QVM IN C:\Documents and Settings\Dexter Antonio\Application Data\Tremulous\base\vm  ??? ??? ??? this is really bugging me

the fs_homepath you are trying to set has spaces in it, try enclosing it in quotes (").

tremded.x86.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +set net_port 32123

1) Delete all.
2) Download tremulous http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tremulous/tremulous-1.1.0.zip?download
3) Unzip tremulous to c:tremulous
4) Download qvm http://projects.mercenariesguild.net/attachments/download/50/game.qvm
5) Copy qvm to C:\Documents and Settings\Dexter Antonio\Application Data\Tremulous\base\vm
6) Download tremded http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/tremded/tremded.x86.exe
7) Copy tremded to c:tremulous
8) Run cmd
9) Type:
Code: [Select]
c:
cd tremulous
tremded.x86.exe +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +set net_port 30720

If that not work, try download this tremded http://www.tjw.org/tremulous/win32/tremded.exe and place qvm there C:\Documents and Settings\Dexter Antonio\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous\base\vm

ya i read that but doing that requires a brain :S
EDIT: i found the way to fix the bug. You have to take out everything from the tjw base because it messes it up
