More Arts
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:35:13 pm »
Let me make this clear: MORE ARTS PLEASE!

In the hope of inspiring all you creative people to get those pencils to paper, I humbly offer this measly contribution of arts I've made recently and not so recently.

Firstly, remember this little sketch I did about a year ago?

Here's an update:

I've also got these pixel animations I had intended to work more on.. and didn't.

Which might have looked something like these weird animations I made many years back.

And I think I'll finish off with a spinning human.

Edit: Come on guys I want to see your contributions! Especially you Optimus, wherever you are.

Just post something creative and you'll help revive the art scene here! Think of the cool fan art you'll be inspiring!

hmm, i love those pixel thingies, the "old ones" are cool also!
be more "brave" with shading, if you use darker shadws, you get a wider palette to use on the entire pic.

i unfortunately has no time nowadays but i keep my eyes targeted here :-(

Thank you so much for the reply Opti! I was worried nobody would respond :'[

I don't exactly have much time either, but it shouldn't take much time to make something randmon and creative ;)

If you have a way of improving something I've done, feel free to edit it and demonstrate what you mean. :D If you'd prefer to start from scratch, offer a sketch!

That's what this thread is for afterall. :]

Finally, I appreciate your input but bear in mind that my interest in art is personal to my tastes and standards. I am aware of it's soft tone and minimal contrast. I felt that darker tones would better suit an oblique perspective and pose whereas this is merely a readable profile sketch.

Who ate all the pies humans?  ;D

Aside from the balloon-like plumpness the scissor-action jaw and the rounded joint-caps above the claws stand out as two unique features. The two hind claws appear to be growing out from the joint whereas in the 1.2 alien hudmodels the goon and marauder claws look like they're hard growths over a fleshy core much like a tooth. We need a set of your pixel animations as emoticons for making Spacewar! style machinimas.

Is it me, or is the spinning human textured on the inside?

It's as though you moved into such a position to see in to the model. It's happened to me, but not from such a distance.

If a demo starts paused you get to see the models on-screen in this inverted state. The vertices which define the corners of the polygon seem to initialize with the negative of thier correct position vector. If you then set a slow timescale you get to see these vertices fly inward to the center of the modle and then explode to thier proper positions.

I just took screenshots of the model at loads of angles and made it into this little mind-bending gift.

My favourite thing about it is the legs that seem to individually spin in the opposite direction to the overall spin. Reminds me of the teacups ride. :D

EDIT:

I appreciate the comments and enjoy reading your interpretations particularly Taiyo :D

Aside from the balloon-like plumpness the scissor-action jaw and the rounded joint-caps above the claws stand out as two unique features.

Also note that there are no eyes to be seen ;)

I'd love it if some of you could post your own works. Of course, it would be best if you post it in a new topic unless it's related to what I've done.

Nice! I can't even tell whether it's a screenshot of an actual game or not  ;D

The only things I would change are the telenode which needs the light 'bands' to look more nodey and the reactor which looks like it's been stretched vertically.

More please!  :D

ohwow
epic win!
+EDIT: i'd recommend the game ESWAT, AVPS, ImpossibleMission and Creatures(2) [esp their extra features] implemented...
+E2: I'd personally appreciate  the full 2D (not isometric) gameplay like Nux designed it still... like... Cadillacs and Dinoz or FF... more "straight"like quake series. Can't really imagine "sharp" controls at a "8-direction" surrounding. this style also failed on arcades as a "human-based" shooter decades ago.
