Hivemind rejects
« on: November 05, 2001, 10:05:00 pm »
Psylo reminded me of the first hivemind I made, totally different style than now. And admittedly not very fitting, so be kind. In game he just floated around his little skirts fluttering , was supposed to be an alien cuttlefish type thing. He had a cool shader effect on him that made his skin look like it was pulsing with colors.

I have some other models we took out too that maybe I'll post at another time. Plus some rejected egg concepts.

The picture looks pretty good, maby it  can be included as a secret ghost character who can sometimes be seen floating on abandonded servers, pondering about what it could have been.

Now let the magic smilies hypnothise you.

hmm, now it looks like a dragon.
why cant you just make a giant pulsing brain
in a pool of blood or slime >:)
maybe with some eyes grown out of it here and there or/and swimming besides it
every minute or so you can see see the eyes getting tired and almost closed the hivemind becomes aware of its falling asleep it suddenly wakes up and looks around nervously, like looking if it has missed some action, or if its in danger.
it laughs when a alien killed a human and shudders when its brood gets killed

that way alien structures in general would look really alive and maybe scaring, because they all would seem like they are feeling and thinking when they react on their surrounding somehow
like screaming when they get hit
or crying when they are hurt real bad
could be almost human sounds to make it misteriously creepy.
it was an idea i had when i worked on my last droid:~( sketch...

Damn, mirabilis again. Is that loading for anyone, or is it just me who doesn't see anything?

A third race could also be an option.

So everyone understands - this one isn't going in the game. It's a failed concept.

Psylo - Yeah the hivemind is going to be more than just a static structure. Those are good ideas you have, some are already being implemented in a similiar fashion.

The hivemind will let the other aliens now whats going on and has a few reactions. For example, if a human shoots the hivemind, they will hear an alien garbled scream of pain. But to the alien team, they will hear an alien voice alert them of whats going on like "THE HIVEMIND IS DYING!" Think Shodon in System Shock.

We have a very talented sound designer working on these

I dunno. That thing kinda reminds me of a creature from the game Chrono Cross. I have no idea why.

I look at it and for some reason I see "Baby Metroid"
ever assume a species is intelligent just because it produces intelligent individuals.
