[SOLVED] Gtkradiant Installation
« on: April 26, 2009, 08:58:24 pm »
Hey guys,
I decided to look at making some maps, but I have a mac.  I did some googleing and discovered http://tremmapping.pbwiki.com/GtkRadiant1_4-Intel_MAC and http://tremmapping.pbwiki.com/Starting+Tremulous+Mapping.  I looked at both those pages, but I still can't install GTKradiant correctly.  I download the http://www.redsaurus.net/macradiant/MacRadiant14intel.dmg, and put the "MacRadiant 1.4
.app" file in my applications folder.  I also followed all the instructions on http://www.redsaurus.net/macradiant/MacRadiant14intel.dmg to change files.  This part all works, but after I try to open "MacRadiant 1.4.app", it opens... then nothing.  No screen opens.  The only thing that happens is that MacRadiant1.4.app appeared in my dock, and in my toolbar.  In my toolbar I can't click "Open New File"(faded out option) or any other selection, because there all faded out.  How can I run/start Radiant?  I understand how to use it, but don't know how to open it.
Thanks,
Kiwi

You have 10.5+
Currently MacRadiant does not work on Leopard without several tweaks...
Check out this.

If you are using an Intel Mac, I would strongly suggest installing Windows via BootCamp, since your mapping experience will be much more fluid and user friendly.

Thanks for both the helpful posts!
Due to what you have told me, I think that I will use my linux server for this process and connect to it using ssh.  If I can forward my x11 will this work? or will it be a good idea?  I've given up on gtkradiant on my mac, but if I can connect to my server from my mac, that would be great!  Also, should I use 1.4 or 1.5?
thanks,
Kiwi

Ahhh, I am sorry, I posted to quick :( You helped me much more than I though you did!
Death On Ice that link was great!  I used the instructions there and it all runs nicely :) thank you so much!
I'll try to help anybody else if they have questions, but thank you both very much.

You can try my experimental NetRadiant build for leopard:
http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=4640.msg160225#msg160225

Or you can try the OSX build from the NetRadiant site, but then you'll have to add Tremulous support yourself:
http://icculus.org/netradiant/

*NetRadiant is a GtkRadiant 1.5 spin-off

Thanks, I've looked into your netradiant program, and it looks promising.  I have ran into another problem with gtkradiant though.  When I run radiant and select tremulous from the list, I get an error that is:
"failed to load textures/radiant/notex.  Looks like your installation is broken/missing some essential elements."
And in the console I get the error :
"I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/Applications/MacRadiant 1.4.app/Contents/Resources/sw/radiant14/trem/game.xlink""
and
"I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/Applications/MacRadiant 1.4.app/Contents/Resources/sw/radiant14/wolf/game.xlink""(which is weird because I'm not trying to run wolf anything?)

If I can't solve this problem, I'm would like to use netradiant instead(on my mac), Is there anyway that I can get a guide to use this?
Thanks,
Kiwi

Using Net Radiant is very similar to using GTK Radiant. It is basically GTK Radiant + some bug fixes and new features.

ahhh, ok.  So will a gtkradiant guide be good enough to learn? or are there a couple differences?
Thanks,
Kiwi

It's almost identical so yes, it's good enough.

Like UniqPhoeniX says, NetRadiant looks very much like GtkRadiant 1.5, you should have no problem
using GtkRadiant (1.5) guides. There's probably more difference between GtkRadiant 1.4 and 1.5
than between 1.5 and NetRadiant.

Note: I don't make NetRadiant, I just make tremulous-friendly packages.

Thank you both!  I have decided to use net radiant, and use a 1.5 gtkradiant to teach me how to use it :)
Thanks Guys!
Kiwi

Note: I have market the topic as solved  :) thanks!
