What I Have To Say....
« on: November 08, 2001, 12:04:00 pm »
Well, the entire ordeal that took place with this mod was a bit discerning. I had recent discussions with Carcinogen, and decided to pop in and give my two cents worth.

Honestly, I fully understand what happened, and Ill agree, it was justified. The large development team Tremulous had wasnt really showing, with a few exceptions. Not everyone had the same kind of enthusiasm and work-force as others in the development of this mod, and it just sort of seemed like to me that some people were staying on for the glory of having the title of a developer.

I know I really dont have any room to talk like this, as I dont have anything to show for my part in the development. I guess this is where I feel a bit guilty. I said I would make maps once I aquired a new system, and I still have failed to reach that. Financial troubles arent something I can easily work around, and even though a spanking new powerhouse of a system is tempting, other things demand attention in my life. If I had the needed resources, yes I would have more to show than just occasional blurbs on the messageboard and in IRC.

Anyway, I will still continue to support this modification, as I still feel it has great potential. Even if it is similar to Gloom, I feel it will turn out great with Timbo and Veda at the helm. Id also like to note that I have faith in this mod in contrast to the ridiculous ammount of "reality" modifications currently being churned out.

As it stands, I will contribute to this mod whenever proper resources are aquired.

By the way, some of these forum replies are incredibly ridiculous and immature. I pity you people who get ticked off by Who.

I believe it's going to be less similiar to Gloom now. The only distinction people seem to make is the involvement of organic monsters verse cyborg ones. It's like seeing a trailer for Mission Impossible and saying "oh now it's going to be more like Topgun" because it has Tom Cruise in it. Well bad example because Cruise has "remade" Top Gun a few times  Anyways, I think you know what I mean. The comparisions don't bother me, it's to be expected. I don't think it will be said a lot once it's released though.

We are also aware of creating simularities and have made efforts to go in different directions. There are no grunts with machine guns and pistols. Currently not much rock&paper balancing. There is more of an RTS focus on base building and defense, which will hopefully create a better team environment. The whole team will literally be rewarded depending on how it works as a team.

There is also more choice given to the player for how they want to play the game. No one is given a "role" of defending or attacking or even healing other players. For the human standpoint there will be endless combinations of weapons/armor to suit whatever you think will work.

Thanks for the encouragement Saig, good luck on getting a new system

I always figured Gloom to be more like a RTS-type mod than anything, I guess thats why it appealed to me. Ive always been fond of RTS games, so the approach being taken with Tremulous to have more of an RTS element is very good news to hear.
