is it posable to make lights black  or some effect to make dark areas for visul effects. say like a tunnle   realy dark with a few white lights every nown then,
it also seems when i tryed to make red or any other lights atm it dosnt show just some lighting error, when i play the map testing it on trem it has the standard colours and lighting as if the lights never were there.

thankz

Knowitall66

Make sure your compiling with a lightmap stage.

Kitashi

As far as I know, there's no way to make a lighting element to make an area dark, but as posted, sounds like you aren't compiling light.  Make sure to use a compiling option with -light in it.
Click the below userbars for more info about their associated programs.

Just use few low lights... than the other areas will be dark.

mmmmmm still having problems,

compiling light I'm not sure what that means, I'm guessing its  when u do that build thing with the bsp and vis, light for the test one, if it is it come up with:* ERROR *MAX_MAP_VISIBILITY exceeded.
now that what i read ses some thing about starting again
QuoteActually, it has nothing to do with the size of your map, but rather the structural complexity. Rather than cut down your map, you may want to consider rebuilding it taking vis into account
its on the standard map maker http://tremmapping.pbworks.com as all people should know.

pls dont tell me i have to start again its taken me just under a month to get to were i am atm and I'm not finished.

i get confused with GtkRadiant alot.

and an additional question would custom textures have any effect's on the lighting?

and compiling light does  nothing (if the light in the build thing is it)
i'm using vista if thats making the problem

thankz again

gimhael

You can reduce the vis complexity by turning structural brushes into detail brushes. These are ignored by the vis calculation. Preferrably keep things that hide large parts of the map structural.

cactusfrog

you can always use black fog

havnt thought of that, it still dosnt make the lighting effects though.

structural brushes, detail brushes mmm not sure how to do it but thankz ill see if i can find it

Man of Tacos

Where to begin... WELL FIRST you can't have black light!!! Not in real life and in games! I'm a science man (and tacos) so let me explain. To get colors you have to have different levels to get to right color on the spectral scale. To get white you have all the colors at the same level. So what's opposite of white... black. So this mean no color and no light. There for its impossible to have a black light.

If want it dark the answer is DON'T PUT LIGHT SOURCES.

BS.

Just place a point light with a negative value. Bang, a darkness generator. Noobs.

Hey man of science, don't you know the most important rule of science? Test every hypothesis!

look in log for more information.

I would like to see that in game.

You still haven't tested anything. At the moment you only have a black coloured shape.

Am I the only one capable of testing things? And you do know that shape is a light entity, right?

However, it doesn't work. If RGB values match it will, for whatever reason, be white light (even 0.1 0.1 0.1).

No, we're just lazy.

MrFish

I see. Carry on I suppose :|

God, maker of the world is correct, setting the value to -50 or whatever will make a dark spot.  Don't know what MrFish was trying to get across, though.

Because I actually decided to test it? ::)

Also, it seems kind of odd that you posted right after God, maker of the world's post on a topic that was over a year old without actually seeing his post beforehand.

The topic was bumped, but apparently MrFish didn't check the timestamp on the previous posts.

Ye, don't blame him. My wish was that no one would accuse me of necro-ing, and that might have caused him to not see my reply.

About the dark lights: I made a test once to find out if I could adjust light behaviour in a good way by putting a negative "inside" of a normal light. It sucked (though it worked).

Maybe putting them next to each other and using several can have meaningful results.

It's also customary to make posts that actually contribute somehow.

"Customary" where? Not these forums. :P Anyways, I would say take your arguing to PM, but considering what I just said, I guess that might come off a bit hypocritical. Carry on then.

Trolling. And only when your trolls show up does it go down any faster. No one would de-karma me for posting an indepth explanation to a problem but you. I only put it in my signature because I want people to know how pathetic you are.

I can't just sit here and let your face take all the credit! I smite you too for most of your posts. I really think that you should think about other people's feelings rather than give face all the credit.  :'(
