Grangers From Beyond

Hello there! I've decided to try my hand at writing. Please tell me what you of ... Grangers from Beyond!!

Grangers from Beyond!!
A Rather Weak Attempt at Tremulous Cross Fiction
Brought to you by Baconizer

Prologue

The lights fluttered as James walked down the corridor. He had always hated this planet. Too hot, too barren. No life, anywhere. Except in the base. It had been built by pirates about 50 years ago, and abandoned when the aliens showed up.

Apparently the pirates could find easier pickings among the numerous fleets that had been attacked by the alien wave and barely survived. So easy, in fact, that most pirates had abandoned their out-of-the-way bases and become more nomadic, moving between derelict vessels, killing any survivors found on board. Scum.

However, this did provide the company with many pre-built bases, conveniently out of sight and uninhabited. Bases such as the one on Jurech III, which were the perfect place for conducting secret research. Apparently, one of these carefully concealed research projects had succeeded, and so James was called in. His job was to examine the results and determine if and how the company could use them.

At this moment, he was having a bit of trouble getting around in the base. It was rather large. After about 15 minutes of somewhat random wandering, James arrived at his destination. He stepped inside the meeting room and was greeted by dim lights and a faint odor. This did nothing to improve his opinion of the base.

“Hello there, Geit. Been a long time, hasn't it?” said a figure on the opposite side of the room. The figure stepped out of the shadows, to reveal a gaunt face. One that James Geit had hoped not to see. “Yes it has Paul. What do you say we just get to whatever it is you have to say?” “Ah, very well James.” Paul put on a hurt face.

“We think we've discovered where the aliens come from. Actually, I'm convinced we know where they come from now.”
“And where would that be?”
“Inter dimensional space. They come from the regions between regions.”
“They're from another dimension?”
“No, James. They belong to no dimension. They could strike at any point in time or place if it were not for one weakness – they need weakness.”
“What?”
“There needs to be a weak point. Somewhere they can break through. At least, that's the only thing we can think of that explains why they haven't attacked Motty or Earth. Well, the only thing that makes any sense, anyway.”
The two people huddled together for the rest of the day and most of the night – long as that was on this world – discussing this, each forgetting that he doesn't like the other in the excitement. Occasionally a few people would poke in to present something further or prove a point, but most of it was frantic discussion amongst two.

Chapter One
The Garden

The Centaur drifted silently and peacefully through space. A powerful ship, one of the newest of the fleet, it hadn't yet had a chance to prove itself amongst the brethren. Within it's gleaming white hull, the general mood of the crew was a strange mixture – eagerness, to prove themselves. Remorse, for the fallen brethren. Anger, at the intruders who caused this remorse. And lastly, but strongest of all of these: joy, to be serving the Garden.

Unfortunately, machinery did not always share this peace. The Centaur's main engines had been struggling for some time, switching on and off. They were badly in need of repair, after having a quick run-in with some stray asteroids. The auxiliary engines were slow, and a normal crew would have gone insane from drifting in space so slowly. But the crew of the Centaur was not normal. They did not see the area around them as space, but as the Garden. Something to cherish and protect, not simply to traverse. This was one of those times when the main engine was out, and the crew was admiring the vastness outside of their protective hull.

Then something happened that had not happened in quite some time – the Centaur stopped. It was not supposed to stop. On normal ships, this would have caused widespread anxiety. But, once again, this was not a normal ship. All but a few members of the crew were filled with tranquility, and accepted that it was the will of the Garden that they cease movement through it. All of the members who were worried were located either at the bridge, or in the engine section. Within a few moments, there was no one in the engine section to be worried. This, however, did not calm those on the bridge.

“Tuy, please report. This is the bridge. What is happening?” Captain Feveri spoke into his communications device.
“Most likely Kushan tricks, sir. I shall ready the swarmers.” Feveri's First Officer moved to do so, but the Captain stopped him. “No ... we're too far in. They wouldn't try to strike us here, in the arms of the Garden.” “One never knows the limits of the mad, sir.” “Send a security team to check the engines.”

Ten minutes later, an injured security man stumbled onto the deck. “Monsters, sir! Too many of them, killed three, they kept coming ... coming ... coming ....” The man slipped out of consciousness. “Monsters? Ready the soldiers.” commanded the Captain.

With a strange calmness about them, the crew was informed of the apparent attacks and readied themselves with amazing efficiency. Everyone on board slipped into a combat outfit, and readied their weapons. Every person, from the Captain to the lowliest gunner, would fight side by side, as equals. They seemed, incredibly, unaffected, even after the aliens were spotted. Even after the first ranks of the fighters had fallen. Their force was small in comparison to many who had fought, and died, in the face of the alien threat. But they did not worry, for few could withstand the rage of Kadeshi warriors, and the Garden would protect them.

Stay tuned for Chapter 2, in which there are both grangers and swarmers. Also, there will be explosions.  :D

Grangers, you say? Grangers?
And explosions?
GRANGER EXPLOSIONS? :D

It looks quite nice so far! There's a few points where the grammar trips up a little; a few spots where a comma might prove useful, nothing major. Nice, solid descriptions.

I can't wait for more!
