Game doesn't load up. Problem with the graphics card?
« on: June 08, 2009, 09:34:06 am »
Hello thear!

I've played tremulous before a few years back and figured I'd start again because of new-found enthusiasm. I installed it, fired it up, and nothing but a white screen pops up and the game doesn't go anywhere from there. Plus, it forces me to reset my computer entirely, because the screen adjustments go all to hell.

Anyway, I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT graphics card, a AMD Athlon 64 processor, and a NVIDIA chipset on my motherboard. I use Windows XP (and pls, no "GO LINUX!" sort of crap, I'm not going ;) ). I have no idea how to get the game working, and with a quick search I didn't find a solution to my problem from the other threads on this board. So, if anybody has had the same problem, I'd appreciate it if somebody could help me out.

Thanx in advance!

search the forums !!
As I said, I allready tried that. Maby my search words were wrong or something, but I can't find a solution. Plus, there are so many threads here that it's really hard to find any answers from all of them. Anyway, still looking.

Please help! I have a 1600 x 900 monitor, so I set the Tremulous resulution to 1600 x 1200 in attempt to set it similar.

Bob: Search the forums and make you own thread, don't jump on an unrelated problem.
Duro: There should a file somewhere around C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\Application Data\Tremulous\base\qconsole.log that should have more info in it.  Post it up.

EDIT:  been informed that qconsole probably won't exist, try crashlog.txt

Well, can you please help out and stop bitching around, if you know how to fix the problem? I personally can't find any help with the search, it's not that i don't know how to use the damn thing...

I'll post the codes in a minute. I'll try a little something again...

Well, you should set it to 1600x900, openGL fails, because the 1600x1200 res is not available.

Well, I tried to find the crashlog, or something like that from that place that was mentioned earlier. There isn't a log like that, or even a folder like that in there. The game doesn't seem toactually crash, it just doesn't load anywhere. The white blank screen just appears and no there is no hd-activity. I have no idea what is happening.

Is there any way to change the start-up-resolution of the game? Maybe that is the problem here, allthough there are no sounds either when the blank white screen appears.

Blank white could be from the short intro... To set custom resolution, put
Code: [Select]
set r_customwidth 1600
set r_customheight 900
set r_mode -1
(or whatever your resolution is) into autoexec.cfg (renamed .txt file) in tremulous/base folder.
If you use the official (rly old) installer from website, you won't have a tremulous folder in C:/Documents and Settings/.

Start Tremulous from the command line please.

Ok, I found the problem. It had nothing to do with the screen resolution. Or then it did, in a way. The default 640x480 resolution didn't show the box that popped up from my damn firewall software ;D The game couldn't load, because the firewall was blocking some sort of .dll-file. Now that I got to allow it, the game works fine.

Anyway, changing the start-up-resolution of the game helped the firewall screen to show up, so thanks for the help anyway :D Thanks to UniqPhoeniX and everybody else for being really helpful!
