The game window shrinks and locks up

my problem is that after about 15 minutes the game freezes and takes it out of fullscreen mode. I can still see everything move and stuff but my controls are locked and i cant close the game or anything the only solution i have found is to re start my computer.

I am running this game on Ubuntu 8.04 if that helps at all.
