Why is it that the Blaster is so close to your face compared to other weapons?

Also, can we have it shoot faster and have it more powerful sounding in the next version? The current sound it has is a little cheezy :D.

i don mind it firing at slow rate, to be honest.
i DO mind the stupid damn projectile flying about as fast as a lucy cannon while only about as powerful as...  maybe a rifle bullet?

I think it'd be nice to have a selection of pistol to buy, as it is w/ rifle.
This would increase the usefulness of builders, promote players staying as builders, and be more true to wat logic dictates.

Either make the firepower stronger like it is w/ lucy (of course though not as strong as lucy lol), or make it travel faster

Sorry, i just hate blaster as it is now.  I love using sidearm when need arise.  Having such useless thing as a sidearm almost defeats the entire purpose of having a sidearm.

I say increase the firing rate.. to be like a weaker rifle that you don't have to reload..... i think humans should have some alternate secondary weapons though.. like maybe a sword(Like a painsaw that you have to swing), or other stuff that doesn't require ammo but wouldn't be able to be abused to the point where people can just unload a ton of ammo down a hall without ever having to get more.
... i also think the blaster should make fart noises when you shoot it :D

Rifle does 5 HP/hit. Blaster does the same as Pulse Rifle and Lasgun (9 HP/hit)

From game/tremulous.h:
Code: [Select]

#define BLASTER_DMG                 HDM(9)
...
#define LASGUN_DAMAGE               HDM(9)
...
#define PRIFLE_DMG                  HDM(9)

(above)...
#define RIFLE_DMG                   HDM(5)

Where HDM() is by default a multiplication by one (HUMAN_WDMG_MODIFIER = 1.0f).

Quod Erot Demonstrandum.

The blaster is fine.  Builders aren't really supposed to have heavy offensive abilities.  Or, if you run out of ammo, deal with it.  You should have rationed your ammo better.

Besides, the Granger has it worse.  The regular granger is unable to attack, and Adv. Granger spit does 4 damage.

Hell, human builders are also able to buy armor, helmets, jetpacks, Bsuits, and hand grenades.

If anything, I support nerfing the blaster to even it out with the Granger.

Well, nerfing it is probably not an option.

Few things to fix(IMO):
  • The Blaster is oddly too close to your head and too high compared to other guns(in first person).
  • It has a cheezy firing sound. I have created a differant sound for it, but am unable to use it.
  • It refires way too slow. It'd be more fun to use if it fired almost as fast as we can click(like in Counter Strike).
  • The projectiles move too slow.
  • Ditch the particles for the projectile, it makes it look like a sissy gun. Pretty sparkles! Yay! Use like, blue tracers or something instead, to make it look more powerful and fun to use.
  • If the refire rate and projectile speed is going to be adjusted as above, then reduce the damage to 2, or 3.

No, modifying the blaster in any way would be a bad idea to the hardcore Tremulous players. The blaster is fine how it is, you can easily kill small aliens with it and I've seen plenty of tyrants get finshed off by the weapon.

I highly doubt the Tremulous dev team would change anything about the gun, perhaps one day some team will release a mod for the game with a nerfed or tweaked blaster.

now some of u may not know i am pretty sure 1 blaster bullet will take out a dretch

normaly when i run out of shotty shells, i switch to blaster and run back to base running backwards hittin dretches

its a pretty powerful weapon, even tho its fireing rate is slow, if u just see a dretch sitten there the blaster can kill it pretty easily

I think it's fine for a sidearm, and that in the right hands it's actually a good weapon.  No upgrades necessary.  There's still the free rifle, the Blaster is more backup.

blaster is ok as it is just like Hodge said
if you reaaaly want something else then maybe a new alternative pistol could be added, shooting like Lasgun (to bullet travel time) with 0.5-1 hp damage

Its so close to the face because of the way q3/trem handles the inview weapons. Won't get fixed untill we redo the weapons and add real animations.

it is very hard to have a tryant at ur ass and you wasted all your pulse rifle ammo. so what do u do? pull out your blaster that never kills anything (unless its a dretch) and you get killed

The blasters Sound sounds like to be expected of FREEWARE!!..heh
it definitly needs to be changed.

the firing rates fine.

the weapon model is severly lacking im shure it'll get replaced by some one
some where..eventually..

That and the projectile Womps..little..popcorn kernal lookin..blop...... why not just give it the pulse rifles projectile with same ROF as blaster. Remove the blaster nugget shot all togather. I mean it does same dmg right moves about same speed.

I could Dig that.

Well, it's a rather cheesy weapon, amirite?

The problem with modifying anything is that certain people are going to like it and certain people won't.  I (or Timbo) are only going to change these files if there is some public outcry for a change, and so far, I haven't heard anything of the nature so far for most of the sounds in the game.

The only one I think we can all universally agree sucks is the shotgun, and that will be addressed in the future with a brand new sample.

One point I also wanted to make is that unless you own the sound effect through purchasing it from a royalty free website, or the sound effects fall into the free-domain category, or you have recorded the sound effect yourself, we cannot, and will not use them.  It is copyright infringement, just as if we stole a sample from Starcraft and used it in our game.

And for the last time, I am not going to use any 'Starcraft' esque effects.  Let's just kill these topics before the sprout again :P.

Just my 2 cents.
