Fixes and commands for Videos [SOLVED]
« on: July 28, 2009, 02:51:26 pm »
Hi! I was hoping you could help me out since I couldn't find anything through search.

I would like to make some amazing tremulous videos using demos, but I'm having a couple of issues.

1. An issue that has gone back sometime and I'd hope someone has found a solution to it by now. When playing back demos, projectiles aren't shown in the air but instead fixed on the wall they're about to hit. Particularly noticeable with the Lucifer cannon.

2. I'd like to get more interesting camera angles and so if you could tell me any commands which change your viewpoint (e.g. Specifying angles in pitch and yaw, changing the center point of the view) it would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time and any assistance.

1) No idea
2) [wiki]Cg_thirdPerson[/wiki] can do a bit of camera moving.
TF was trying to make server-side demos, where you'd be able to be a spec and float around.  Not sure if anything happened about that.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

You have no idea about number 1? Does that mean you've never noticed the problem or that you just don't know how/if it can be fixed?

Thanks for the wiki link, but I was hoping for more than just these 2 variables. I was hoping to be able to change the 'up/down' angle and offset the center. I did actually know about the TF serverside demos but this would only be useful when it's a TF server which most of the time it won't be.

I've never heard of 1 before.
It'd be nice if the server side demos stuff could be made to work with normal demos.  You'd be missing a lot of the game, but would have enough to be able to video the dude who's demo it is.

Here's number 1 in action:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G4t36b6aw0

Those little luci balls you see appearing off in the distance are actually behind me. I'm running faster than them and I actually reach the wall before them.

EDIT: In fact in this video they never reach the wall at all. The goon that attacks me actually pounces into them.

Very very odd.
It happen in all clients and is there a dodgy cgame anywhere? (maybe one with old style projectile nudge set wrong?)

IIRC the projectile bug happens when you're replaying your demo with a non-vanilla 1.1 mod. (even if you're only using it to have nicer menus)

If you're using linux and want a nice record program, I'd recommend you GLC.

I have heard #1 is exactly what cadynum said, playing back your demo with a newer qvm should fix it.

According to /serverstatus when I run a server, the version I have is 'tremulous 1.1.0 win_mingw-x86 Feb 17 2007'. This isn't anything more than the standard qvm with the TJW backport as far as I'm aware.

Nope. Don't use linux. Sorry if my name misled you >.> 100% Windows user here.

So what 'newer qvm's are there that won't do stupid things to the tremulous I love?

version is hardcoded into the client/server binary, it won't change based on the cgame you're running. you have a cgame with cg_projectilenudge somewhere in base/. you could set cg_projectilenudge to 0, but you really shouldn't have it there to begin with (and afaik anything remotely recent won't cause this issue with projectilenudge enabled).
