New forum layout
« on: August 26, 2009, 12:56:34 pm »
Hey guys, nice job on the new forum layout  :D But I was just wondering, is there still the "show new post sense last visit" link?  That was very helpful.  Also, what is "I want a snadwhich" supposed to mean?  I'm hopping its a typo  :laugh:

A) In profile -> look and layout, you can use the old one etc if you want.
B) It's this link: http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?action=unread
C) I think it's linked from the quick-links menu.
D) Where's it say that?

I appreciate the effort but I'm not going to be using the new layout. The old one is easier on the eyes and above all it's familiar.

Well it's not a new layout considering it has been around for ages, it just depends on what the mods think the most appropriate theme is.

i think this should be the default theme, as it is. Its alot more professional looking, and more asthetically pleasing than the one we last had.

I like the new layout, but that link isn't easy to find  :-\
As for where does it say snadwhich, it says it if you hover your mouse over the new tremulous forums logo.  If it is a typo, sandwich doesn't have 2 "h"s either

But very nice job everyone who worked on this :D

We had originally stopped using this theme due to a single bug. I had been using the SMF default theme due to some lazyness, and I didn't realize that there were a whole host of things missing from Temp-Trem (including a report to moderator button, etc.) The time needed to fix the single bug in this theme vs. fixing the 5-6 bugs and 5-6 missing things in Temp-Trem very easily dictated that I fix the bug here rather than spend time on Temp-Trem :)

If you notice anything not working here, please let me know.

If you select any theme in your profile options other than "Forum or board default" you will never see any changes :)

right, i use the standard SMF layout, and the last few times you've made any sort of change to the forum you've changed the theme for *everybody*. especially that pink granger bullshit. ;_;

I couldn't find a better place to mention this.

Replacing 'karma' with 'build points' is fun and all, but it's also incredibly confusing.

Now that we 'zap' or 'rebuild armoury', which one of those is the good one? >.<

Rebuilding the armoury would deduct buildpoints in-game, so logically that should be equivelant to 'smite'. Yet people would probably see rebuilding as a positive act and 'zap' as more akin to 'smite'.  ???

I want to replace applaud/smite with something tremmy but I couldn't think of anything cool, some random people said those on IRC so I did it. Come up with something better :)

atm:
Karma = Build Points
Applaud = rebuild armoury
smite = zap

Karma = Evolution points
Applaud = Share
Smite = Steal

Karma = Kills
Applaud = Feed
Smite = Kill

Karma = Admin commands
Applaud = Setlevel
Smite = mute

Karma = bp
Applaud = Build
Smite = Decon

Too many of the alternatives to smite sound like it's you who's doing wrong. :[

The main problem here is in trying to use an analogy, you're going to end up misleading anyone who's not already familiar with the karma system.

If you want to make the karma system more 'tremmy', how about relating ranges of karma to certain tremulous classes? Like if you have 0 to 5 karma it makes you a 'dretch' and if someone applauds you again you evolve to basilisk.

Ones like Freak's sound OK, but they don't exactly work (killing someone does not lower their killcount.)
