tremulous maps
« on: August 26, 2009, 01:19:30 pm »
hi i'm playing trem for about 3 months now, still far from being a pro but i enjoy the game a lot.

however there's one thing that really starts to piss me off. why do play people always play the same maps?

on the bigger servers its 3 outta 4 times ATCS, what a boring predictable map. there's almost no room for the nicer qualities of trem like moving base and teamplay in general.

the other ones are quite nice, especially transit leaves enough room for many different games but it gets boring after a while too. (and people moan that it's too big, i personally like it that way)

i know that autodownload is disabled and this is a reason for most servers to run the standard maps, but there are so many good looking custom maps that would make the game more fun.

/end rant

Because people always want the same old map on which to camp, spam and feed. That happens to be ATCS, and people don't want to play a map that they're less familiar with. You could go and play on other servers with an active map rotation I guess. But I don't expect that ATCS will become less popular anytime soon.

Hi,

we (Italians players) are tryng to play ATCS(hit) less then possible and in some servers it's out of of rotation too.

I'm the biggest ATCS-H8 !!! :)

I too, have gotten extremely sick of the non stop ATCS on many larger servers, and I try to avoid it as much as possible. Not to advertise, but as advice from one player to another, Nuts server (while not having default BP, but not too high, and 2 RC/OM) plays ATCS not very often, and there are often good games on all different maps. I'm sure there are some other servers out there that are decently populated and still dont play ATCS often.

STORY: Just the other day I was playing on Karith, and I was the last builder when our base got destroyed. I hid in the vent connected to the elevator room and then, when it was clear built a base in the elevator room and brought my team back. We went on to chase the aliens down and win that game. I think it's situations like that that really show off Tremulous and it's possibilities, but something like that could never, ever happen on ATCS.

ANOTHER STORY: After losing few games because of noobs and retards I decided to play like one of them. On niveus first thing I did was checking who's with me in humans - gray names. So I deconned RC and built in in box room, before it was up, dretch came and ate me. I spawned as rifle, killed few dretches and got tked. No one noticed that rc is not in the base. After the tk I spawned as c-kit again, and ran to... garden. I didn't know that rc in box room powers that area so I was really surprised. I built few rets, 2 nodes and arm while dretches and goons were killing our old base, they didn't kill RC though. And then my team evolved, they started to talk (!!!!) in understandable English (!!!![...]!!!!!!!!). I ordered them to buy light armors and camp - they did it, goons were quite useless, dretch with poison was killing one of them form time to time. After I used all bps, I thought that I'd be nice if we have RC in our base, not outside. I told them that I am going to decon rc, one of them bought ckit and asked me where he should place it (OMFG). Anyway I overran goon and was close to decon rc, but... dretch. As far I remember I made it in the second run, aliens tried to rush, but maybe one or two of my teammates died. Then we got s2, started to pwn their asses, and once we got s3 they had no base *bigsmile* nub aliens
Dretch*Strom ftw

Plant room base is pretty dangerous for the aliens, because if humans have a supporter base that is as difficult to take down as that base, humans constantly rush and aliens can't really counter attack. The spamming opportunities in that room are endless and to make it even worse, the part where the aliens can get out, is very narrow.

I too love the plant room base. Tyrants are neutralised, goons can't jump, mara's get tangled, dretches and basi's get mowed. The only thing marginally good is an Adv.Goon with it's sniping.
