Tremulous 2.0
« on: August 31, 2009, 11:22:03 am »
Tremulous is a really fun and an addictive game. But what could make it even more fun and beatiful then it is now, is to make Tremulous 2.0
on a brand new engine. I don't about you guys but I sure would like to see Tremulous on a new engine with Physics too perhaps? This idea came to me recently when I saw this Topic on some other forum http://www.dpfiles.com/showthread.php?t=48 Now, what I was thinking that you guys are so talented with modding, scripting, modelling and mapping you could remake Tremulous with Half Life 2 engine! :D If any help is needed I am offering my own services in mapping. You could also add all new features you would bring in the upcoming 1.2 version of the game and incorporate it in 2.0. Cheers to everyone and thank you for your time to read this ^_^.

Game on.

*sigh*

No. Tremulous is open-source. Source is not.

It's taken 3 years to get to 1.2, so now it's finally near you us to drop it all and spend 20 years and a few million starting it again from scratch?

what about the linux users. at least make an engine suggestion that's available on all operating systems instead of just winblows.

Actually, someone did it. But the source engine couldn't handle its awesomeness so they coded their own engine. It is called Natural Selection 2.
jk...
Personally, I wouldn't port tremulous to any other engine. Even If you did, what would it add to tremulous. Too much work for a few extra features.
If you are thinking about a commercial game you should reconsider it. "Aliens vs Blahs" is an overused theme; you'd need to find some unique elements.
Anyway I don't think you are serious.(If you were you'd have posted some sketches and/or screenshots)

moving to a new engine would be good though(faster code/better performance(possibly), better GFX. quake3 engine does show its age). the only real engine i think that would be an option i think would be xreal because its based on Q3 and opensource. and the source engine i hope will never be an option
but first they need to get 1.2 out(something that should have been out like 2.5 years ago).

Yea I guess you guys are right, maybe moving on to a new engine wouldn't be a that great idea.... and I guess if am thinking of doing this seriously I should make some maps and post screeenshots, but I don't want to give it my all for nothing :(. Thanks for replying tough, am kinda thinking over this idea, and am aware of all advantages and disadvantages of a new engine.

Whats wrong with the current tremulous? Its steaming along nicely, we've been waiting for 1.2 and now you would just make us start the wait all over again? NICE!

Yes, Fisher. Clam requested.

I hear Tremulous 1.1.1 is slated to be in beta around 2038 just so it can be tested against 32-bit integer overflows. Of course, then it'll go back to a closed alpha in what Americans would call the "groundhog's shadow phenomenon."

As has been stated on these very forums, the balance changes are done, the merge of doom is mostly done, and there are just one or two bugs and small changes holding up the beta.

Hey wow where have I heard things like this before oh yeah in a shitload of other locked topics because people go from talking about new features and speculation and even good discussion to whining and moaning and meh.
