Sorry for the really empty reply, had to do it quick. I'm not a hardcore Trem player as I'm sure a lot of you are. A friend of mine (Ultra578) and I are planning on making this new campaign, with more than just Alien enemies (rogue marines).

We are planning on utilising the Blackout mod, if the creator will let us. At the moment any help would be great. New Models (bosses? Characters?) Weapons, Armour, Level Design, Textures but most importantly Lore, I'm a writer and lead designer for an FPS/RPG Steampunk Horror called Witch-Hunter.

This is my side-project as my work on Witch-Hunter is very limited at this moment in time. I'll be writing the plot and so forth, and most likely the dialogue which most likely will be presented through text-boxes.

I read about the "Robos" third race, who seem awesome, so do the "Unvanquished" would love to be able to adapt them somehow, Unvanquished could be a native race of the planet you crash on eventually (SPOILERS?). But the Robos name doesn't seem to fit, maybe something more "Cyborg" like...

I thought that they could be controlled by a rogue A.I. in a derelict Human Facility (Military Training, Research?) Having more than just two races would add a good deal of differentiation between chapters in the campaign.

I think thats a better summary then my first.

-Tomothy

P.S. I'm thinking of having a prologue based on Titan (Moon). If anyone could tell me where the Aliens come from, or where they were first encountered and how they spawn that would be great.

If you need any help with AMP (Advanced Map Patch): http://blackout.imn2rc.com/index.php.
There is no official story about where aliens came from, the only official story "The Visit" is here. You might want to take a look in the "Written Lore" section tho.

I think I smell sarcasm :p

I have more races, like Mutants (bio weapon gone wrong) the mutants are called "The Conflict" there are several different types of enemies, from the common Aliens, to possibly the Unvanquished, The Robos controlled by the evil A.I., an abandoned battalion of soldiers deserted when their base was bombed to get rid of Aliens, the Conflict Mutants, and native Monsters.

Factions:
Sentinels of Sol: The Human resistance formed when 12 Heavy Cargo Liners were attacked by the Alien force which reign’s terror upon the galaxy. They are technologically advanced and are the faction that the protagonists of the game work for.

The Alien Horror: The first Aliens encountered by Humans, and the most dangerous. The Aliens are constantly evolving and consuming world by world. The SOS forces are driven to finding a way to destroy the Alien Horror, but are constantly driven back by their own mistakes.

The War-Bots: created by the SOS as a replacement for the Human forces that were being torn to shreds by the Alien Horror the War-Bots became another threat when the rogue G.C. (Generated Conscience) took over the War-Bots and pitted them against their Human creators.

The Conflict: On the distant moon of Heldamus a research/mining facility had found a biological “antidote” for the Alien Horror. Planning to use it as a weapon against the Aliens it didn’t quite turn out that way when the experiment went horribly wrong creating symbiotic evolving mutants.

Menot!x: The Technology company responsible for the creation of the G.C’s. The G.C’s are highly advanced A.I’s which instead of cycling through pre-programmed responses create their own and can learn. This proved dangerous when their most advanced one called the Deviant turned Rogue.

Haos Redro Corporation: The Richest organisation in the galaxy, the Haos Redro Corporation has a business empire literally spanning several different solar systems. They boast their own private army, but when they lost 12 Heavy Cargo liners the Alien Horror made itself known.

Tau Cetian Crime Union: Not exactly a faction, the force which has become known as the Tau Cetian Crime Union is in fact 5 different crime families all operating in the Tau Ceti system. All 5 factions are controlled by Space Pirate Kings who must be defeated.

Good luck!  ;D

Thanks! :D

More info for your eyes...

Systems:
Sol: Our Solar System has become known as Sol. With eight planets all ruled by the Sentinels of Sol the system of Sol is rather peaceful, but with the different threats closing in the War for Sol is approaching. Sol is like a shining gold ring on the hand of the galaxy, and Earth is the sparkling Diamond, but this cannot last.

Zion: The first system to encounter the Aliens was Zion. When the Haos Redro Corporation lost contact with 12 Heavy Cargo Liners it became apparent that Humans had encountered intelligent Aliens for the first time. The system of Zion was once occupied by the Aliens known as the Al’Gejsa who were a Tribal Race spread across the System thanks to Teleportation which they called “Magic”, they were killed off by the Alien Horror.

Tau Ceti: The Second most widely populated system, several billion Humans migrated to Tau Ceti during the Gloom Ages of Sol, and is more populated then Sol itself. It is known as a great target by several different factions, and the planet of Dagourus is a haven for Space Pirates and Rogue Traders.

Brindus: The Newly Settled system of Brindus is littered with what have become known as “Death-Planets” these planets are dangerous to set foot on because of the vile monstrous entities which call the surface home. Brindus is the location of several abandoned Military Outposts and Training Facilities.

Planets:
Chthonia: Once a Great Gas Giant the planet of Chthonia is losing its gas exterior because of its approach to its sun. Soon it is estimated that Chthonia will be slowly pushed back and become a Terrestrial planet, but at the moment it remains as a desolate mining planet.

Terra: The “Super-Earth” as it has become known was called Terra because of its great similarity to Earth but incredible size which matches that of Saturn. Terra is a vastly populated world controlled by the SOS and is a Tau Cetian planet.

Dagourus: A relatively small planet which is still vastly populated. While still “ruled” by the SOS it is seen as being controlled by the 5 Space Pirate Kings. Dagourus is a dark and gruesome planet with an even darker history. But its underbelly hides the coming rise of another threat to the SOS.

Hedron: The “12 year new planet” is a space colony which consists entirely of Obsidian rock which is mined by the Haos Redro Corporation. It is a dangerous planet because of its wild storms and harsh conditions.

Tellus: Another Terrestrial like world, Tellus is the sister world of Terra and is equally large. It is not visited in-game but the artificial rings are visited. The artificial rings are massive space ports and factories.

Gaia: A forest death-planet in the system of Brindus. Gaia isn’t visited but one of its three moons is. The three moons are also forest covered and are called Medusa, Euryale and Sstheno.

Characters:
Ked Ambrit: The Battalion commander of the Haos Redro Corporation Army who are fighting against the Aliens in the Zion system. Ked can’t be played as but is seen and spoken to many times by the player characters. He and his soldiers help the SOS in the last chapter when they try and destroy the Great Overmind which will halt the Alien Horror for some time at least.

Pvt. Drios: The Soldier Player Character, Pvt. Drios was on the Zion Space Colony which was an expansive Meteor Mining station which was where the 12 Heavy Cargo Liners were coming from. Pvt. Drios luckily for him escaped with his life and was saved by a military ship called the Britannia, he was recruited because the military thought he knew something about the Alien Horror.

Wrench: A Military Engineer nicknamed Wrench. He is told to go to the Tau Ceti Space Complex which is a large Space Station. He goes there as a maintenance officer only to have it attacked by the same Alien force, not knowing where they have come from he builds Turrets and must defend the core until finally being driven off the Space Station after he receives a distress call from Pvt. Drios. He immediately goes to investigate and their missions collide.

Prof. Wynhoven: The inventor of the Virus which has become known as “The Conflict” Prof. Wynhoven created it under Project: Ragnar which ended in disaster when the facility on the Moon of Heldamus was over ran by the Aliens, they tried to use the Conflict against them only to create Vile Mutants which Drios and Wrench are forced to fight through.

Captain Heinrich: The Military Captain who comes to help with the Mutant Situation and reacts by blowing up the station. Wrench and Dead-Shot only escape thanks to Captain Heinrich’s support ships.
The Deviant: The Rogue G.C. who controls the War-Bots. The Deviant is an ever changing being whose intelligence surpasses any other human or computer and is growing by the day. The Deviant has created what it thinks is the perfect host body for it to reign from.

Chancellor Lorhan: The Ruler of the Tau Ceti system, Chancellor Lorhan is a brave and wise leader and is consulted on Terra by the player characters. He is in charge of all developments and also the “Conflict” Issue.

Zayus: One of the Space Pirate Kings. Zayus is the leader of the Red-Fang Gang who are dressed in red uniforms and hold the Dagourus Slave Trader’s Guild and their base is the Red-Fang Stronghold.

Garek: Another of the 5 Space Pirate Kings. Garek commands the War-Dogs who are have the strongest army out of the 5 kings by far. They own the Dagourus Weapon Factory and their base is the War-Dog Command Centre.

Tion: The third of the 5 Space Pirate Kinds. Tion leads the Mutineers, a faction of assassins and other Soldiers of Fortune. The Mutineers are underhanded and often hard to spot except by their Mutineer Badge they wear.

Lucian: The last of the five leaders. Lucian leads the Unforgiven, a religious force of “Space Satanists” (Never referred to in game). They have genetic experiments which create the Unvanquished.

Captain Unvick: Commander of a Battalion abandoned on the planet of Gaia, when Pvt. Drios’ ship crashed on the planet he was faced with facing the now vengeful soldiers of the “Lost Battalion”.

and yet again, that was from me,
       Tomothy.

Something like DOOM II.
Instead of creatures from hell, you have aliens from planet X.

oh yeah, I forgot they came from Planet X, I think I might make it an artificial planet or something.

oh and why did you specifically say DOOM II? DOOM I was about demons too, doesn't make much sence but anyway. Also would you say every single World War II game is yet another rip-off of a Medal of Honour, Brothers in Arms, Call of Duty or Wolfenstein for that matter? Another game with "Daemons" isn't a big deal. Anyway, the Unvanquished have a pretty small part if any, I'm not sure if I want the whole Pirate Kings thing, maybe expansion or something :p PLAN AHEAD!

As nice as this sounds, maybe a real tutorial would be a good starting point.  Either way, you'll need numerous custom levels, decent bots, and some form of level scripting.

As someone else put it, good luck.

I have to say, when I first started the game Tremulous... I thought the story was as follows.

A mining corporation (Haos Redro) colonise an alien planet called Tremulous and get rich from mining rare resources. Unfortunately they unearth a strange alien artifact buried under the planet (as you do). The artifact turned out to be an ark containing a fierce alien race who quickly spread across Tremulous. Nexus have their own clone army (which is why all humans have the same models) which they employ to fight back the aliens and reseal the ark.

It was only until reading more about Tremulous that I discovered there was no backstory... To this day I didn't know how I arrived at the tale depicted above but that is what I thought and although I am now aware there is no laid out backstory to Tremulous I still think it is pretty good.

It is simple, concise and makes sense. Instead of trecking across the galaxy it is just a nice do-or-die scenario like Left 4 Dead in space.

Haos Redro is the mining company, Nexus are a mercenary company. Aliens attack 12 cargo carriers from a planet. they then spread. Haos Redro managment on Titan asks Ked (no surname) to remove the infestation. Ked employs Nexus to destroy the aliens, but this fails. when the Nexus fleet boards a Cargo ship the aliens attack and board back, with neither side able to give up. The two ships are Nexus 6 and Arachnid 2 (that is where the map names come from).
To support creation of a tremulous RTS visit the post 'tremulous rts may be developed' in the general section and support my programming team. We must expand the tremulous universe!

He does have a surname, it is "Ked Ambrit."

And neither Nexus6 nor Arachnid2 are ships. (If you look out the windows near the humans default in Arachnid you will see ground and sky.) And in the Nexus6 info file, the creator identifies Nexus6 as "a dark gritty pump station on a toxic planet."
