Flashlights, Lasers, and other goodies!

Tremulous is a great game! The core system is all there, and best of all, it works, and is balanced. Now, polishing it up with the cool stuff will turn it from a good game into a great game.

Humans

Flashlight:
An attachable flashlight that can be equiped to a weapon or construction kit. The flashlight has unlimited power, but only while a reactor is online. There should be some penalty for using the flashlight. Perhaps you appear on the aliens' sensors earlier.

Laser Sight:
Would look cool, i cant imagine it would help at all. Maybe make it an appearence option for players to remove the targeting reticle and replace it with a laser sight.

Aliens

Hive Mind:
This toggle ability expands your radar to include any humans and structures detected by another alien or alien structure. Enemies who are not in you range appear green, and are always overlapped by the ones that are in your range. This will allow people to find the human base if one alien has found it.

Leech:
10% of all damage inflicted on humans is added to your health. (might be cool, might not)

Flashlight's been said "No" to many, many times. The maps are bright enough.

Letting all aliens see on radar what one sees removes the need for everyone to find the base -- games would end up shorter as a result.

Leech: Aliens already have regeneration. While it may seem cool to suck health, I think it'd be a little imbalanced, as humans have no way to steal life from aliens ;)

I STRONGLY doubt you are EVER going to see a flashlight in trem... its a huge pain in the ass to make one right when someone could simply just turn up their brightness, and mappers could brighten things up a bit. This has been said 100s of times already... its not worth the code for "cool".
Feel free though to write it yourself though :D.

Leech might be interesting.... even though you do have auto-regineration.. so its not extremely useful.. maybe in an attack on a base where you jump over the turrets it might be neat...
The other 2 though... are pretty much useless imho...

laser sight:  Quake is not designed for long entitys. visibility will make laser sight look very very very buggy as you enter and exit "randowmly" from the PVS it will show/unshow.  So is a bad idea for all BSP based engines.

hivemind: the radar is YOU radar, is centered of you. having it show more will
be confusing, because theres not distance information there.

leech: I like that idea for a "adv dretch/adv basilisk" mod.

flashlight: I like this idea for eyecandy-esque but dont think will serve any gameplay reasons. EXCEPT if you force aliens to be blinded by a big corona or something, so humans can hidde in that corona, and will be harder for goons to snipe and to dretch to attack.

also when the gloom people tried to do flashlights they realized that q3 just wasn't designed for it. Want a flashlight? play q2 gloom, Doom 3 or go to your local tech shop and buy one to shine under yer chin.

This is my flashlight. There are many like it but this one is mine. My flashlight is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my flashlight is useless. Without my flashlight I am useless. I must shine my flashlight true. I must shine brighter than my enemy, who is trying to bite me. I must lit him before he bites me. I will. Before Timbo I swear this creed: my flashlight and myself are defenders of my base, we are the masters of my enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Well an alternate use of the flashlight would be to BLIND Aliens (and Humans too I guess). It would be used not for looking into 'dark' corners but as a tactical weapon to temporarily disrupt an enemies senses.

Dretch/Basilisk would get some kind of ink shot (like a squid) that blinds for a few (3) seconds to counter it.

It could be an 'extra' kit item at a very low cost (say 30 credits).
