What about scavenging aliens?
« on: October 22, 2009, 08:26:15 pm »
I have realized that in several mods - as will be in 1.2 - aliens regenerate slower, faster if there is creep around, even faster near Basilisk (healer) and booster. This is an excellent idea, and brings a hell lot more balance to the game, however, I have another suggestion to make:

Aliens can "eat" human corpses and get health from it.

Aside from the idea that someone could make a gore-mod (with human guts and limbs liying around and some blood + aliens turning into green slime one can slip on), this would make the game a hell lot more creepy and add some depth to it, for it would not be a good idea for humans just to run and let aliens feed on their dead buddies' flesh or maybe to very well do so to prevent them from having even more food.

I think it would be best to just have to slash at a human corpse to get, idk, the number of health points per slash you make when hitting human feet or something.
I have retired from Tremulous. Definetely. If you play a game just because it has become a habit, but u'r only feeling like a kindergarten teacher - well, maybe I am just getting too old (hell, I was a teenager when DukeNukem3D was *new*) - it's probably not a bad idea to just let it be. And I do.

Don't take this personally. Have fun, guys.

Next the grangers will be used as scavengers to collect human body parts so that they can "build" stuff with them. Bone-cade anyone?

And you know what, the Grangers would still be the cutest thing since baby Hippos.

I think decorating the alien base with severed human heads should suffice - sticking them on the overmind's spikes for example.

As for eating the humans for health goes, it could work in combination with a reduced regeneration rate. Just so long as it's not implemented like the lame eating in AvP - it needs bloodspam and bone crunching noises. Hudmodel animations of the aliens skewering severed limbs with their claws and shoveling them into their mouths, etc.

I think you could bring dead humans to the OM for bp's, or you could eat them to get evos.

As for the humans you could bring dead aliens back to the RC and put them into the incinerator to get credits and bp's. (Rants would have to be cut up for transport)

That'd increase camping with 300%. Players would just all sit in base, wait until someone dies, rush to it and bring it to om/rc.

I think that humans would benefit from using earth movers to help them shovel the alien carcasses into an incinerator that generates steam to fuel the human economy. Yeah, that sounds just about right.

That's why you have the Smoke Monster from Lost. It would rat out campers, unless they're AFK.

But then people would just move around every once and a while. To prevent this the Smoke Monster would target the whole area, and kill everyone. (It also hunts TKers)

First it would look rather blocky for an alien with such an organic shape due to Trem's engine. Second, can't we be more original than to copy a prominent figure from such a famous franchise?

A Granger that hunts people down and kills them mercilessly.
