chaingun has no rotation sound and it starts firing instantaneously
There should be some delay between the start of rotation and fire

agreed, short delay after pressing trigger would be welcomed

Think of the current chainguns as being electrically powered.
Problem solved!

The point is, that electrical moters have linear acceleration, which means they would be up to speed in a fraction of a second.

It is a common misnomer to refer to Gatling guns (rotary cannons) or miniguns as chain guns; even in some video games, such as Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, the player carries a minigun referred to as a chain gun

Is it a real chaingun or a minigun in Tremulous???

it's called a chain gun cause that's what most gamers recognize it as. Save for the UT community shose chain guns have always been miniguns ;)

there is no delay! insta-fire

Actually chaingun is a misnomer for gatling gun, which is what you have in games.

You can easily tell the difference between the two lol.

Anyway i'd suggest something like they had in AvP(i think), where it had a wind up to fire, but you could use the alt-trigger to keep it rotating before hand, but you'd give off an easy to hear sound.

It would be cool if it had a rotation sound, kinda like:
whap! whap whap whap! buudddd!
the whaps increasing in intensity.

Well, the main part of people using chainguns are in s1...no helmets.
You can be pwned by a dretch with a headbite and ankle bite. You need fast reactions to shoot it b4 it gets a chance...1 sec delay, and hummies=dead.
No one would use it anymore...meh. Its fin, leave it.

And Mwa, are you 10?

You won't hit me anyway when I decide to dodge when I play with a dretch, so small delay wouldn't change anything :P

Maybe people can first learn to aim with the chaingun, and more importantly, stop dying by chainguns. They suck.

Chaingun is a spray'n'pray weapon till hummies reach s3 and get bsuits.
Then it's only good against tyrants and goons, and OK to very crappy for anything smaller.

I love chaingunners in s1. Their confidence is so high that killing them is a breeze. If I can kill u with ease when you're standing up and running, imagine how easy it is when you crouch and don't move ;)

So for the sake of realism if you were to add spinup to the chain/gatling gun would you also add a realistic rate of fire? That website says that most gatling guns fire at least 4,000 rounds a minute, which means it would dump the 70 rounds needed to kill a tyrant in less than 1 second... personally I think its fine like it is compared to that

I think it should be renamed to teh SPACE GATLING SHOOT-O-MATIC.

And you have to keep the capital letters.

You forgot to capitalize 'teh'.

I love the chaingun.  I never crouch with it.  Instead, I think of it more as a giant bucking bronco of a sawed off assault shotgun.

Works Great.  Less Filling.
