1.2 Suggestion

This is just a suggestion, They may sound Stupid so be as brutal As hell  :laugh:

Ranks - After killing a certain amount of aliens, or if your an alien in a game, You gain a rank, First one is Private for Human, Prawn for Alien (Prawn Means Helpless Bottom Feeder)  Next is Sargent, Predator for alien. Lutenant, Pouncer for Alien. Captain, and Tyrant For Alien. Last - General,  Berzerker For Alien.

Game Mode - This is inspired by the game Lost Planet 2. You have one big Open Area, And You choose Which Big Alien To Kill, Or Huge Machine for Human.
You have a Giant Alien that Cycles through the map, And Kills All the humans, But The humans Have to shoot a certain part of it to bring it down. For Aliens, They have to take down a certain part of the mech to kill it.

Before i go into why, i believe theres a feedback section...

Though i like the idea of ranks, you rank names suck, and it would be hard to implement on the quake engine. Maybe a mod for a server could work, but it would only work for the single server.

And as for the game mode, though it sounds good, once again its near enough impossible on the quake engine, it would just blow up.

Killwhores would LOVE ranks.
Although I did enjoy the awards to be earned on ET:QW, I don't think that would work in Trem.

But the Mech/Jiant Alien idea is ok, may be fun of sorts.
But in the end everyone would just helplessly throw themselves and it over and over again until they just left.

if you could use the ranks to make for more even teams, it would be a good idea.

Minimum

Don't base ranks off kills. Kills =/= skills. Maybe have different ranks for killwhores, builders, and basekillers. Imho:

Humans:
Rookie
Constructer
Engineer
Architect

Aliens:
Weaver
Granger
Something
Something

-Basekillers-

Humans:
Basestormer
Grenadier
Demolisher
-Something-

The other idea might be hard to do with Quake. Also something more suitable for a mod.

ranks could be done right but it would be very hard. if it was done right it may help balance teams(possibly with a callvote shuffle vote? would mean keeping a record of players ranks etc on server-side and dividing it by how long he has played so 2 new records in admin.dat if you decide to put it there not too bad)

my suggestion would be keep it hidden possibly global if possible(not needed but might be nice) and have it points based like:


  • all kills are worth 1 point(0.5 if done by super weapons like tyrant and lcannon)
  • buildables are worth 1 point every 5 mins they are alive and built by you
  • repairing buildables is worth 1 point every 1k hp repaired?
  • losing like 1/3 of your hp and getting back to base to recover is worth 0.5 points
  • every buildable killed is worth points(say acids are 1 point while eggs/om is worth 3 maybe 5)
  • camping in base loses you points at 10 points per min(yes i want this one badly)

but keeping it not viewable ingame atleast i would definitely recommend otherwise you'll get people only joining the teams with the highest rank use the calculations as a way to balance the game and keep them hidden instead of a "OMG look at how good i am" kind of thing

Make it optional. Some servers encourage that kind of competitiveness.

Isn't there already team ranks?  Like, if your team kills enough your rank is increased as is your access to better weaponry?

Tremulous does not need ranks. I am quite well known on the servers I play, and even am promptly banned from a few for a few...discriminating reasons. Let's face it, for the people who know me, HellsAngelz is a rank that means a complete idiot who can kill noobs most of the time. (a.k.a. :granger:)

maybe if the ranking did something to improve the gameplay it would be fun, also the ranking would have to be like admining, but it gave you like a name aside of your admin like for example im level 4 on aa, it would be like lvl 4 midlevel admin (general)or (demolisher)
