Map downloading errors
« on: November 08, 2009, 06:41:00 pm »
Whenever I try to enter UnlimitedBP or another server that has a map other than ACTS (And the only server who literally does no other map other than ACTS is skittles), it says "Couldn't load maps (insert map name)" or something like that, but what's disturbing about this is that I was able to download maps before. What could this issue be and what could resolve it? It sucks because i am literally left with only the skittles server, and the person who runs that server prohibits the mourning of family members and such... (not joking either).

You have a fake link to some shitty click-count "game" in your sig and you expect us to take you seriously?
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

It seems like someone is having a nice, hot, steaming cup of RAGE today. If you get pissed off by THAT, then i can only imagine the hilarity and nerd rages from you losing a game.

Anyway back on topic. Just tried to import all files into a folder named Tremulous but it caused some errors upon startup. I think the problem is that there is no default location, and i have to chose it manually. Is there a fix for this?

Nevermind, i resolved the problem, I had to use an alternative client, but it still had to be downloaded to a folder on the DT, and i have a feeling that there will be yet another problem.

You shouldn't "have to use" an alternate client, you should WANT TO.

Seeking help with a map downoading error
« Reply #5 on: November 12, 2009, 02:23:33 am »
I play on the server Unlimited BP, and it always had a large selection of custom maps that were actually quite good, but for some reason, the game gives me an error when we are about to play on a map not native to the game's original content. I would like to know if it is possible to manually include these maps into the tremulous program itself and bypass the errors, and if so, then how do i do it?

Take note, I am not bumping this thread with this post, it was moved here by a moderator unfortunately.

Take note that I have indeed wanted to use an alternative client. But the pieces of the "Alternative clients" that you are refering to in particular are scattered around the websites that I am directed to, and it's like trying to piece together an entire castle with nothing but grains of sand.

the alternative client that I mentioned, was not what you are thinking of. It was a client just like the one I was using that had a particular default directory, but was still malfunctioned since it did not add tremulous to the program files and auto-extraction of files included (Whenever I extract them manually, it makes the game unplayable).

Enabling downloads: cl_allowDownload 1 and sv_wwwDownload 1.
To manually install maps: in console: "fs_" and then press tab, take a look at fs_homepath. You should put the maps in <fs_homepath>/base/.
And what alternate client are you trying? You should just install the default 1.1.0 client and install TremFusion or MG client on top of that.

I am using 1.1.0, but its strange. it is not directed to program files, so I had no choice but to make a tremulous folder on my desktop. I tried looking for alternative sources such as websites that had the same download file (Hoping for a default download option). I tried looking for a better client, as you suggested, but all of the  alternative clients have pieces scattered about the websites as I stated before, and give no directions on what to do.

http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/client/mg-client-manual.txt is pretty clear on how to install it, download these 4 files http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/client/win32/ and dump them wherever you installed tremulous.  Then use that .exe instead of the one that was shipped.

if you really want to download by hand, http://downloads.mercenariesguild.net/maps/
