and replace the qvms, and add the pk3's.

Where do we get the new qvm and pk3's or are we talking about using all the vanilla 1.1 qvm and pk3's

Don't know if this is the right place for feedback. You can move the post if not.

First impression - bad. What used to be a fast-paced action packed game is now slow as hell. Why's that every alien has it's speed reduced to turtleness? I don't like the idea of playing a Tremulous for Grannies version. It's a major deterrent.

Secondly a  more minor annoyance - playing small games is a pain since aliens heal so slowly. Move the 1/2 speed of 1.1 with a marauder, then crawl back to your base to heal since there isn't room for a basi in my team - that's no fun. And players are with no doubt forced to play the small games while the servers are getting populated after school/work is over.

Thirdly I don't know if it's just in the beta but console is getting heavy "not on pure list" spam.

I admit not having been playing dev games for a while now. Overall good changes but the slowness is just getting me to the point of not wanting to play the new version at all.

The server Dretch*Storm joins the GPP1 beta testing. I invite other established servers to follow and help the trem devs.

I installed temulous + the gameplay preview, fired it up, but couldn't find Dretch*Storm in the server list. I'd like to try out the beta (been a while since I played tremulous) but apparently no one else is playing it right now. Does anyone know which servers ARE running the beta? I presume the development servers are, but are there any others besides D*S (which I can't find in the list)? Servers where perhaps there are people actually playing?

Everything the beta client lists is running the beta.

I'm disappointed that people's past actions have forced me to state what should be obvious.
I am not a dev.  Nothing I say counts for anything.

Oh, Further the my question above.

Considering that 1.2 had gameplay tests on the two Dev servers for nearly about year maybe more, do the dev team have ANY idea how long 1.2 will remain in beta for? It's okay to quote say gameplay hours, or calendar time, I'm easy like that.

rotacak

I can't build OM in SD (?).

BTW, how to use emoticons?
BTW2, can someone post any predefined admin.dat?
BTW3, unlimited bp servers need to recompile qvm with changes?
BTW4, turret turn sound is annoying.

Volt

How do you change wall walking speed to auto?

As per before it'll create one if it doesn't exist.
The same deal as before should work for UBP

Ok, whats with the wallwalk toggle thing?
It defaults to toggle, but you have to toggle it on then off for it to work, not be push and hold....

Hopefully one of the first third party afterreleases will be a pure hack specifically made for nulling that damn turret spinup sound.

It is a new feature. Brain melting spin up sound melts your brain in real life. Either turn off the sound or stay away from the turrets

Kiwi

Works perfectly on my mac.  I did have to rename the Tremulous folder under application support though.

Nice Job!

Thanks,

Can't predict how much tweaking and fixing we'll need to do, but it takes about 200 games to produce reliable data that we'll use to verify the balance. So how fast the beta goes by will depend partly on how much people play on the official servers.

Sorry, but from what I just saw, most people disagree with you

have fun playing a new game!

Edit: Anyway, GJ @ all involved in the development. I've seen some people I haven't seen in a while, and for once, I wasn't forced to play ATCS with 20 people! Unfortunately, I suck way too much right now to comment on balance. Oh well.

Plague Bringer

Played a few games today on US. Some thoughts (from a human perspective);

- Most chaingunners play an extremely aggressive role. Even at S2, if I ever picked up a chaingun, I'd be the front line, going toe to toe with maras and goons, literally an arms length away from them. Every player whom I've ever seen be successful with the chaingun is always up in his(/her) enemy's face. The chaingun's damage was nerfed in favor of upping the accuracy, but due to the aforementioned playstyle of a successful chaingunner, the boost to accuracy is extremely negligible, compared to the crippling -1 damage.

tl;dr: chainguns need their shit accuracy and their higher damage back.

- The luci is a MUCH more effective weapon for going on offensive vs. anything smaller than a tyrant (in my limited experience). It's not, however, the base demolisher that it once was. While I understand it was important to give it a role vs. players, we don't have a dedicated base demolisher any more, and that's tough to get used to.

- Pulse rifle is much more effective now. I'm not liking the price increase, especially with the nerfed ammo capacity. The speed of the projectile is very, very nice though.

- I feel like, for whatever reason, ATCS tips the balance waaay in favor of aliens for some reason. Could be that the compact base is vulnerable to +maras. Not sure. Are any of the def. 1.1 maps going to be included in the 1.2 release?

??? I assume *all* default 1.1 maps are going into 1.2... why not?

I suppose you could make an arguement to take out uncreation or transit... but I like them.

With the changes made to turrets, a lot of the 1.1 human bases may be unsuited to 1.2 gameplay. Also, with the revamping of just about everything else, I figured some maps would be replaced or remade for 1.2.

After few games I think trem 1.2 is ok.

But it looks very different from 1.1. In 1.1 was longer fights.
In 1.2 like alien:
- no sense to attack human base with any class before SD, because all attacks are mostly suicide rushes, due to strong turrets. No chance to hit something in base and run away.
- I lost driving license for tyrant
- when I will meet lucihuman then it is russian rullete

It seems like 1.2 is one step closer to instant kill version. I like new version, I can learn to ride tyrant again, same with luci, but I loved slow luci and low height tyrant/bsuit and small dretch and weak turrets and hovel and dretch ability to kill turrets and I don't want to throw it away :-/

Does it still have those annoying popup windows telling you that you can't evolve because there is a human too close, or you don't have enough creds, etc where you have to click 'Ok' or press escape? I think those should be taken out, as they really just irritating and often ends up getting you killed when you are the last hope for your team. Perhaps another messaging system could be used, something similar to cp?

You know you could turn those off?...

No I didn't. And you just made my day...

omg yes yes yes please tell me this is actually happening. that will make 1.2 the best thing ever. atcs is the worst most overplayed most unbalanced map ever in existence.

Yes, you can go play by yourself on the few remaining servers that don't run atcs.

2 or 3 new maps would have been great for a new release, rather than gameplay changes on the same old maps. Also, i sort of agree with some maps being changed, i think theres a few spots (transit) where goons can no longer pounce too? I may be wrong

There will be new maps too, and old maps. More maps = more fun.

Im not saying its not fun to everyone. And also, i disagree, ive seen far more people against 1.2 than for. I think your forgetting the fact that active forum users make a a tiny fraction of the community. And i think your also forgetting that kefuffle when ozzy got a load of people who dont go on the forums to have a say.

Im actually astounded that theyre going through with this.

Also, i'd like to add, that alot of the people for 1.2, when ive spoken to them, said they would have prefered 1.1 with minor changes. Which i think is the proper course of action for balancing, instead of creating a new game.
