I've been working on this map for a little while now, it's about halfway completed. Most of the layout is done and most of the textures are on as well. I just want some suggestions on balance/layout/whatever to improve it as much as possible. Keep in mind there are some textures lights and other things missing right now.

Here's the roof of the map, I plan to add a lot more pipes and lights.


Another view of the roof, better showing the crane, of which I'm quite pleased. :)


Here's a room I am quite happy with, there's a hole in the glass ceiling that leads to the roof which is reachable from here by jetpacks as well as goons and marauders.


The 'green tunnel' leading to the alien base.


And here's the layout. The ground floor is outlined in yellow, basement is orange and the roof is green.



Comments and suggestions are welcome. :)


Also, just a quick question. It seems the clip texture does not take on the properties given it by the common.shader file. Instead I see a black and white grid, unless I create a brush in the same position with the nobuild texture in which case it becomes transparent. Can someone shed light on this?

Terragen!

So your expecting lazy fat humans to jump over the pipes or go around to the stairs?

How will you keep people from going over the edge?

Its always nice to see a map though that looks like someone put some time into it! Keep it up and post some more screens of the inside when you get a chance!

There are several other places to cross the pipes, plus humans can crawl under them anyway.

I put a lip over the edge of the entire roof and I'll add a tall clip brush once I get that to work. :P

Looks great, but also looks like a HUGE FPS killer.  And seeing your FPS counter in the corner kinda proves this... so it looks like it needs optimizing.

Remeber that glass anythings make it so everyhting on the other side of the glass gets rendered... so with that map effectively the roof and the inside are pretty much being rendered at the same time, killing your FPS :P

yeah, the engine will render everything in the near area and on the other side of a transparent surface.

You need to get some new textures in some of those areas, because they majorly repeat badly.  Especially the floor on the roof and at the broken glass place with the trusses

Looking good, but I would be careful with the performance in the outdoor areas, if they are outdoor areas at all(the first few sshots).

Just make sure you go easy on the big open areas, and make sure you add some cover for the poor bugs.
