Either the server you play on could possibly have a Ventrilo/TeamSpeak/Mumble server (not all servers do), or you could use Tremfusion.

I just about want to slay you right now.

Here's the statement in its whole, just for a look at this monstrosity.

well I don't think I can run trem fusion
Tremfusion works on all the big three OS architectures.

I have updated my wine installation
Wait, what?

(.exe runner for ubuntu (not emulator))
We're not imbeciles, I would say a good 40% of Tremulous players use Linux as a full-time OS.

ubuntu
Ubuntu is NOT synonymous with Linux. Ubuntu is a kind of Linux, but the words are NOT interchangable.

And just to be constructive, MG Client, FSM, and Tremfusion all support Voip ingame if the server supports it.
As far as I know, the 1.2 client does, but I may be wrong.

yes 1.2 has it it was put into IOQuake3 rev 1348 and trem merges all ioQ3 changes every couple of months so any client that's kinda up to date has it

WTF you dont need wine to run tremulous. heres the main(32bit) Linux installer link off main site http://sourceforge.net/projects/tremulous/files/tremulous/1.1/tremulous-1.1.0-installer.x86.run/download flag that as an executable and run it(as root so it installs systemwide)(i shouldn't have to explain it to you since you are running linux) then just replace the executable with the one from tremfusion.

what?!?! you are running tremulous under wine, in ubuntu... that's wrong on sooo many levels.

1) tremulous is in the ubuntu repository, open up synaptic and search for tremulous
2) the tremulous client is so readily available, and works in linux
3) tremfusion is compiled for linux
4) tjw has clients for win, mac, and linux
5) you're running wine

Very bad idea! Someone somewhere (posibly a dev) mentioned that synaptic has an outdated version of Trem and that it also seems to not install correctly iirc. He would be better off using the link that SlackerLinux offered.

because tremulous for ubuntu is hard to upgrade and I can't wait all the time for slow map downloads and anyway the wine version works fine the ubuntu version just fucking sucks and is too buggy with ubuntu's sound drivers i've had problems with it before but I don't care about tremulous anymore i'm giving ideas to people to upgrade it to the source engine making it shiny and more shiny and better for water effects but for old computers it can always be on the source 2004 engine because if half life 1 can run on a modded quake engine then tremulous can most possibly run on the 2004 source engine, and if you think the ioquake3 engine is better than the source engine ytour wrong the source engine is more realistic but the ioquake3 engine has it's good wits like good window effects.

edit: also tremfusion doesn't work on my computer it fucking crashes it's annoying and buggy if I can't run it I can't run it but the main thing is how do I identify teamspeack or headset enabled servers?

The best way is to ask players/check !info when you are on a server (but I fucking bet they will be fucking kicking you because of your fucking fucking)

Also reasons why Tremulous won't be ported to Source has been discussed many many times.

1. If your unhappy with the BloatBuntuu package dont use it instead use the installer like everyone else did.
2. alot of people have given help here have you tried any of it
3. why would we want to port to the s$%t source engine you know that doesnt run under linux right
4. tremfusion might have 1-2 issues but i wouldnt say its a buggy pile /me wonders if its crashing cause your doing something stupid like running it under wine. even if you have trouble with tremfusion have you tried fsm-trem(client i worked on kinda outdated) or mg-client(worked on by MG group even more outdated)

seriously some people should stay using windows

There is no need to insult him. He provided some constructive criticism, wheres you on the other hand, rejected all of it on the basis of the fact that he said the source engine was shit. This whole thread of yours is entirely worthless when you, its creator, refuse to at least acknowledge the efforts of help.

Based on this and all of your other posts in this thread, I would guess you are no position to be critizing people for lack of intelligence.

If you decided to read his post, you would see he actually gave you advice on how to fix your problem, but you replied with largely hypocritical flaming.

If you don't care for anyone to try to help you, can't spell, and flame people when they do try to help you, then leave. Nobody wants someone like you.

For everyone reading the topic, sheridanm962 is a grand example of someone who attempts to know what he's talking about before doing any research what so ever.

1) The sound drivers in WINE rely on native drivers to produce sound. Saying your drivers suck in WINE means your drivers suck in your distro...
2) There are cases when WINE is more suitable than a native client for a few reasons. This is rare however and almost always has flaws. In Tremulous' cases, not using the native client is like not eating your food directly. It gets passed to your momma, who then spits it out where you pick it up and swallow it whole yourself. Not to pretty huh?
3) I don't use Nubuntu, I use Fedora. Even with the awesome Yum package manager, I still installed manually. Why? Because it's obviously more up to date and puts me in control of what package version I'm putting on my machine.
4) Saying Tremulous should move to a source engine is completely retarded. As a matter of fact, Tremulous developers would likely need the IQ below a retards to actually even begin to acknowledge this advice. It was not constructive at all and even counter-constructive.

I'm not going to say you need to be an expert to use Linux, but it does require common sense and a little bit of knowledge of how Linux works in general for the admin to use it properly.

The source engine is always called crap because... well, it's crap. Get used to it. Not to mention that it's proprietary software.

If the sound server was a big issue, one could add something themselves. I've always wanted to offer implementing a VoiP system in Tremulous via TS3 SDK. I'm almost 90% sure they don't care since people refuse to not spam the VoiP and everyone ends up muting each other.

Reasons why we may not care anymore about what you post:

1. Your post didn't make much sense. Read it again. Go ahead.
2. You insult people for suggesting ideas/alternatives.
3. You demands things. From the developers no less. And you do it across topics.
4. You advertise your 'company', also across several topics.
5. We have problems of our own, why should yours be our priority?

Wait, when did Frazzler's karma drop below ThirdStreetTito's?

Anyways, I think the OP here needs to learn a little bit about how to use a forum, or what a community is like.

For the Source engine argument:

Those of us on Linux cannot use the Source engine; that cuts off a large sector of the current community.
The Source engine is nowhere near the definition "crap", it's just not cross-platform.

As for the original topic:
As far as I know, Wine cannot grab mic inputs, so you'll have to figure out how to natively run Tremulous; this should not be hard if you actually work in the field you claim you do.

On forum etiquette:
Please, if you have three things to say, put those three things in one post.
If you forgot to say something and nobody has replied yet, use the modify button.
Use punctuation. Turning your entire post into a run-on sentence will not draw the sympathy or the help of the community.
Think before you speak.
Actually try doing something before you ask.
Do research.
Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
