does Tremulous have separate clients for mac/windows?
« on: December 28, 2009, 07:49:10 pm »
i'm wonering if the clients are separate - i.e. whether or it's possible not mac guys can play in the same servers as windows guys.

when i'm playing 1.2 on my mac, is everyone else in the server on a mac as well?

They are separate clients for each operating system, but they can all play on servers together.

So, when you're playing on a server, there are people there playing on Mac, PC, and Linux.

No. Same as on the internet. There are tubes for maccies, for nerds and for bluescreen lovers.

I have a Mac and my nephew has a PC and we both get totally different servers when we look them up. He has a lot more than I do, so they are separate and I do not know how to play on the same server or set up a private serve for him and I?

How far apart do you guys live?
Have you tried using the server name instead of position on the list?
Are you both playing the same version of Tremulous?

This is a PEBKAC error somewhere down the line, you just need to figure out where.

Yes, but the other may be playing GPP, which would explain having different server lists.

Aquariuscomfort> ok questions please
<freezway> hi brandon75689
<freezway> thx for reposting th e sounds
<Aquariuscomfort> I have a Mac and my newphew has Windows and we both can play, but see different servers and cna not play together.
<Aquariuscomfort> how do we play together
<A_Spork> pick a server
<A_Spork> make sure you join the same one
<Aquariuscomfort> is there even a way to set up a private room or server just for us?
<A_Spork> do either of you have show empty/full checked or unchecked?
<freezway> anyone know if /buildables/mgturret/firetemplate.wav is ever used?
<Aquariuscomfort> i just told you it doe snot show the same servers so how do we do that
<A_Spork> you could, but you'd have to pay likely
<Aquariuscomfort> yes
<A_Spork> well then you have something different
<A_Spork> im assuming this is 1.1?
<Aquariuscomfort> they are different server and he has more, so I assuming thatis all window servers and mine are mac servers
<A_Spork> no
<A_Spork> there is no difference
<A_Spork> (also, im pretty sure most servers are likely running linux
<A_Spork> )
<Aquariuscomfort> you mean different servers for different version of the game?
<A_Spork> 1.1 is not the same as 1.2
<Aquariuscomfort> ok let me check what version we have
<A_Spork> so no, if one of you is on 1.2 and the other is on 1.1 you cant play together
<A_Spork> have to be on the same version
<A_Spork> (1.2 is better)
<A_Spork> Sorry, *GPP*
<Aquariuscomfort> oklol i was confused causemine says gpp1
<A_Spork> ok
<A_Spork> then you're on GPP
<A_Spork> id suspect he's on 1.1
<A_Spork> so he'd need to still get the GPP
<your_face> id suggest 1.1 if you are going to be setting up a little party
<A_Spork> GPP >1.1 faes
<your_face> not really
<A_Spork> yarly
<your_face> depends on what you want
<A_Spork> true
<A_Spork> if you want camping, 1.1
<A_Spork> if you want a fun game, GPP
<your_face> for what hes going to be using it for, id suggest 1.1
<Aquariuscomfort> so he could not find my server because we didnot have the same game right, but settting up a server for just us should be fine?
<your_face> stop being a zealot
<A_Spork> nou faes
<A_Spork> Aquariuscomfort: even if you set up a custom server you need to be on the same version
<A_Spork> they use different protocols
<Aquariuscomfort> ok i checked the site and they are both the same, maybe I did his donwload backwords and opened up the 1.1 instead of the gpp1
<A_Spork> does he have the gpp?
<A_Spork> you need 1.1 to install gpp atm
<Aquariuscomfort> yes but maybe i opend the 1.1 instead of the gpp1 cause i downloaded both of them
<A_Spork> yeah
<A_Spork> make sure you both open gpp

 Tamaru_ (~Tamaru_@ip68-231-112-130.ph.ph.cox.net) has joined #tremulous
<Aquariuscomfort> that was it eureka!!! I was goingnuts trying to figure it out lolthank you
<Aquariuscomfort> I installed the one but not the other
<A_Spork> lol
<A_Spork> np

So, yeah, gpp != 1.1
