1.2 Won't Install - Linux

I'm on a Ubuntu computer, and I just can't get trem 1.2 to install.
I get this error every time:

I've installed Lua40 and Lua50 and their libraries from debian, and don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

Alright, I got it to work by downloading the zip...now I have new problems.

1. Trem closes after a few minutes of playing, no errors.
EDIT: 1.1 does this too.

2. The brightness setting stays after trem closes, meaning that webpages are so bright I can't even read them. (workaround was to open term and turn brighness back down, found from search on forum.)

Run it from a terminal and post up the output.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

Also, the icon for the program is still at the top, but I can't close it. clicking it shows a small black box on the top of the screen.(you can see it is part of the game.)

EDIT: This small box also changes if I move the mouse, pretty sure it is of the gameplay.
EDIT: Moving the box with alt-click and drag made it close, and added this to the console:

OK, it works fine in windowed mode...
This is really weird, but I'm fine with windows.
Plus my other computer will be fixed tomorrow.

Looks like the window is iconified, but Trem still runs. Make sure that you have no screensaver enabled, sometimes they steal the focus and then the fullscreen window is iconified.
