setting up a 1.2 server on a mac
« on: January 22, 2010, 03:45:33 pm »
Can anyone help me with starting up a 1.2 server on my mac. The directions in the sticky topic for setting up a mac server didn't work and I didn't see anything in the other threads that would help. :( i really would like to start up a server for newbies, or failing the ability to set that up properly at least an FF on server.

As you said, you read this sticky right?  What exact problems did you run into.  That guide is excellent and it is a lot easier for all of us and you if you use that guide and ask any questions that you have along the way here.

Warm Regards,

Yes that is the guide I used. The problem is that I could not find a 1.2 game QVM and Tremded.ub that will run a server. I've configured my port forwarding, as well as trying to set the dedicated server up on my internal network. I'm going to try a clean install and config, without bringing in any outside resources from tjw's qvm because it's not 1.2 (i don't think)

I specifically want it to be a 1.2 server for newbies similar to the setup that wrath has on his 1.1 newbie server. First I would have to get the server to run though :-\

Use the tremded from http://tremulous.net/files and the qvm that comes with it.

There aren't any custom QVM's distributed for 1.2 yet.  (AFAIK)
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

There are.  http://link removed because some forum mods hate references to ☻...☻ no matter how on-topic it is, even when the referencer doesn't refer to any of his own work.

Aren't any "standard gameplay" mods then.  No Lakitu/tjw/tf yet.

aardvark is a 1.2 custom qvm but as far as i can see there is no tremded that goes with it.
As for the lack of support for macs i can only ask WHY DO YOU HATE US?

I can't use my shiny $70 mightymouse that worked perfectly in 1.1 I get no tremded.ub or qvm and people will undoubtedly reply with "eww a mac go get windows"
Look buddy I'm not bashin on your system don't bash on mine.

I may soon just have to install a totally new OS just to play trem/host a server >:(

The ♻AHEM♻ module actually can offer "standard gameplay" even without requiring a download (just don't put data-oc-vX.pk3 in the server, but if you indeed don't upload that, then your server will *only* be able to run "standard gameplay"; you can still do all three types of gameplay, Domination, Normal, and OC, if you're willing to require a download), and it even has buildlog and revert.  To disable dom you only need to set g_unvoteableLayouts to dom, and then to disable OC either 1) don't save or upload any layouts whose filename begins with "oc" 2) set g_ocOnly to -1; and just make sure that g_ocOnly isn't positive (if it is, OC mode will always be used).

you don't need to download a game.qvm or a tremded.ub, both should be in the application bundle (or if tremded isn't, the client will do just fine with +set dedicated 2).
