Changing default resolution on startup?
« on: July 18, 2006, 09:31:39 pm »
I'm trying to run Tremulous under Ubuntu, and when I start it everything on my screen is black except a narrow bar on the left side of my monitor, where I can see part of the first menu.  I assume this is because I have dual monitors  and it is getting confused.  Does anyone know how to mess with the startup settings of Tremulous, or has anyone had this problem before?

I am using the latest ATI drivers ( 8.26.18 )

hi,
i don't know that problem, but you could edit the file autogen.cfg or autoexec.cfg in your /base directory to an appropriate resolution.

I think it's because of your Ati card..
Ati drivers suck under Linux and a LOT of people have problems with them..

If you think it might be because of the dual setup.. unhook a monitor.. see if it works... that will at least help limit the cause and maybe offer a good solution.

I don't seem to have an autogen.cfg or autoexec.cfg in my base folder, just maprotation.cfg, server.cfg, and some pk3s.

Google Earth, Blender, and everything else that uses OpenGL all display imperfectly in various ways with a dual head configuration.  Hopefully ATI releases some driver updates soon.

I have an NVidia dual monitor setup and I can tell you it's no better.  Fullscreen and dual monitors just don't seem to get along very well in X11.  If there's a fix to be made for this it's most likely to be made by adding better Xinerama support to SDL.

I wish I could give you an easy fix, but what I do is kind of complicated.  I play all games in windowed mode and configure my window manager to hide all the decorations for the window of the game so it actually runs full screen on one of my monitors.

How would I set Tremulous to run in windowed mode?

When you play it you can hit
alt+enter
to window it.... thats the easiest way though I don't doubt there is better.
