My vision is to merge this with the 1.2 manual along with placing it in the in-game menu.

These are things that are blatantly obvious to Vets and Pros alike, but perhaps not to your average new player.

The Tremulous Guide
  • Getting Started
    • Assuming you have run the installation program, Double-Click the icon named "Tremulous Gameplay Preview".
    • Once the splash screen finishes, you will arrive at a menu:
      • If you would like to set up your graphics settings to customize your tremulous experience, click Options.
      • If you would like to jump straight in to the game, click Play. This will take you to the Server List. For more information, refer to the section titled "Connecting to a server".
      • To check the latest news from the official tremulous website, click News.
      • To choose from a list of different variations on gameplay, click Mods.
  • Connecting to a server:
    • Servers are rooms that host games on them. Some servers may differ in game-play, but the biggest difference between servers are the players that frequent them.
    • If you would like to choose from servers that are on your Local Area Network, click the top-left button that says "Source" until it displays "Source: Lan".
    • If you would like to choose from servers that are hosted over the Internet, click the top-left "Source" button until it says "Source: Internet"
    • To get a list of servers, click the "Get New List" button. This will display all the servers on the network you have chosen.
If no servers appear in the list, you may have to change your source to "Source: Internet".
    • To join a server, select which server you wish to join by clicking it once, and then clicking the white arrow on the bottom right. You can also simply double-click servers to join them.
    • To refresh the server list, click "Refresh List".
    • To choose whether or not to view servers that have no players in them, click the "View Empty" button.
This can drastically change your server list, as there are many servers with no players on them.
    • To decide whether to view servers that have the maximum number of players on them, click the "View Full" button.
    • Some servers are private. They require a password to be viewed. Click "Password" in the lower-left corner to enter a password to reveal a private server.
    • If you like a particular server, you can add it to your list of favorites by clicking that particular server in the server list once, then clicking the "Add Favorite" button.
    • If you would like to manually enter a favorite server, click the "New Favorite" button. This will open up a box where you can enter the ip address or url of any particular server.
    • You can access these favorites by toggling the "Source" to "Source: Favorites".
    • To see information about a particular server, select that server in the list and then click "Server Info".
    • To find a friend that you know the in-game name of, click "Find Friend" and type in their username. Any matches will be listed below.
    • If you wish to create a server, click the Create Server button. This will take you to the Server Creation screen on which you can customize the options of your server's gameplay. For more information, see the section titled "Server Creation".
  • Gameplay Information
    • Once the game has finished loading, you will appear in the middle of a map. Currently, you are a spectator. If you wish to join a team, click the LMB to choose which team you would like to join.
  • Humans:
  • Aiming in general: Aiming applies to all weapons and is obviously very important in your encounters with aliens. Two very important things are involved when aiming: Tracking and Prediction. Tracking involves keeping the alien or structure you are shooting at in your sights at all times. You may have to twist your hand in a weird fashion to accomplish this, but it's well worth it. Prediction involves predicting where your target is going to be in a couple moments and accounts for a lot of hits with hit-scan weapons such as the mass driver, and projectile weapons such as the Lucifer Cannon. For instance, when a dretch jumps, you know it will come back down in a certain spot. Aim for that spot before the dretch gets there, and shoot once it is there.
  • Once you have joined, click the LMB to open a menu containing two devices:
    • The Rifle
      • This is your default weapon.
      • The Rifle is a very versatile weapon. As with any weapon, accuracy is moderately important. Even so, the rifle isn't very accurate and has a mild spread so you shouldn't be too concerned about accuracy. Rifles are used most at stage 1 against dretches. When using a rifle against dretches, remember a couple things: Always keep moving. Focus on one dretch at a time when there are multiple dretches. Try as hard as possible to keep dretches away from you as once they get to your feet, it's very hard to shoot them accurately.
    • The Construction Kit
      • This is your tool for building structures.
  • Aliens:
  • Once you have joined, click the LMB to open a menu containing two classes:
    • The Dretch
      • This is your default fighter.
      • The dretch plays as a very quick class. Dretches automatically bite humans when they are close enough. It's main strength is it's speed and it's ability to wall-walk. Hold down the 'c' button to latch on to surfaces. It is highly recommended that you use walls and ceilings in approaching humans. Dretches automatically bite humans when they are close enough. Head-bites to non-helmeted humans can kill them in two bites, so always aim for the head of a human.
    • The Granger
      • This is your class for building structures.
Work In Progress.

Thanks Ryan and Bob for your input.

  • Connecting to a server:
    • Servers are rooms that host games on them. Every server has it's own style of gameplay, different players, and rules.
This isn't necessarily true, nor do I hope it'll ever be. I like at least a little bit of consistency. :)

No two servers are exactly the same to the individual player.
Clan {Jo|So} were clan {No|Shows} at todays war between them..

The Magma Warriors are pissed off you wasted our time, and I have decided I will DOS attack your server, I have a program for that. Unless you want to get your asses on, and do a 3 on 3 or 4 on 4.

Updated with aiming tips, and minor fix on the description of servers.

Wikis are the most non-free way of sharing knowledge. The data you entered is moderated, manipulated, mutilated and removed not just by a group but anyone. It is worse than a forum or it is like a forum where everyone can edit anyone's post.

Except that every page can be easily blocked and be under your (author's, or any other user's) moderation. Also, editing, vandalism etc can be reverted with two clicks.

only wiki admins can block a page. and if it is blocked it also avoids positive contributions.
reverting?... you should constantly check if anyone edited it... every month, every week or even every day! This would turn you into something nasty

Or just subscribe to the pages you care about, so it tells you if someone does something.

And the full history is there for all to see.

And what's wrong with trusting people and assuming that there are more good people than trolls?

Well obviously allowing anyone to edit means everything will be ruined - that's why Wikipedia articles all suck so bad that no one ever looks there anymore.

(proof by contradiction, in case you didn't get it.)

Blocking doesn't mean a page can't be edited any more; that's like saying banning empties out a server. People who cause problems are blocked by admins; other people are not. Not all admins are good, and sometimes people who make valuable updates are blocked. But one thing the Wiki management structure does very well is protect the status quo - reverting is easy, and good stuff is not just going to disappear.

Decided, what the heck, to move this to the wiki.

Movement in progress.

Apparently, I don't have access to create a (sub)category. Canbfixplz?

Anyhow, I continue on. I already updated the rifle's entry a bit.

GJ!!

I don't think there's any specific permission required - just type [[Category:foo]] in a page and the category will be created and the page will be listed in the category.

Thanks for the info liskey. Also, I can't believe there's no underline code in the new wiki.

text will probably work.

But you shouldn't be specifying styles, specify structure and let the wiki style it in a consistent way.
