Player Rules

Player Rules
1. No Griefing
   This includes intentional building to lose or TKing.
2. No Harassment
   No badgering people, no endless complaining, no acting like a baby.
3. No Glitch Building
   No building outside of the map.  No building in a manner that intentionally impedes the game such as blocking your team into a room.
4. No Cheating
   No bots.  No wallhacking.  No spectator spys.  No revealing information publically as a spectator.
5. No Server Takeovers
   No joining with your friends/clan to vote kick individuals or groups.  No locking teams.
6. No Spamming
   No spamming public, private or team chat.

Admin Rules
1. Follow Player Rules
   Just what it says.  Player rules apply to everyone.
2. No Excessive Punishments
   Do not kick for spamming when a mute will suffice.  Do not ban for harassment when a kick will suffice, etc.
3. You're Responsible For Admins You Promote
   Level 3 and 4 admins can promote people to their own level or lower.  If you make a bad decision doing this you could be demoted yourself.

All Rules are subject to change and/or refinement.

The rules are guidelines.  Use common sense and fairness,accept that there isn't one of us who won't screw up at one point or another and accept your lumps as we all will.

Official servers are newb friendly and will likely attract a lot of them.  If you cannot accept that they will screw up, feed like newbs or do various other idiotic things then reconsider whether or not you want to be an admin and/or play here.

Moderate swearing is allowed within reason though racial/religious/gender-based epithets (including "fag" and "bitch") could get you muted without warning.

Malicious admins will lose admin levels.  Admins doing stupid things will lose admin levels.  These are not rules but the way that it will work.

When admins take care of each other including promotions and punishments, others will not need to.

Begging for admin levels not only will not get you admin but may result in a loss of admin levels and regular mutes from higher admins.

Arguments are to be taken off of the server.  IRC and forums are for discussion, games servers are for gaming.

Bans are not to be excessive.  2 weeks is the maximum.  This is not a rule.  Special cases will be taken into consideration including longer bans and subnet bans.


WHAT TO DO IF YOU WERE BANNED

1. Initially, make a condump

Get recordings if you have made them.

2. Try to (PRIVATELY AND POLITELY!) contact the admin you feel has wronged you to try to discuss it with them and resolve the issue yourself.

3. Make a post in the forum explaining what has happened.  Be clear and concise.  Make any supporting evidence such as condumps or recordings available as possible.  Posting in all caps or needlessly insulting people is unnecessary and will likely encourage admins to ignore your post.  Reasonable venting is acceptable.

4. If you feel that time is of the essence there is little that can be guaranteed.  Posting a link to your forum post in the Tremulous IRC channel may get a quicker responce but there is no guarantee.  The tremulous IRC channel is at #tremulous on irc.freenode.net


WHAT TO DO IF YOU WERE KICKED/MUTED/DENYBUILD

If it has happened many times, record and condump the specific instances and follow the steps to resolve bannings.

If this is the first time, suck it up.  We're not the girl scouts.

All of these seem like common sense to me but some people need the obvious to be stated.

In general admins shouldn't use admin commands/powers without good reason:
Don't clog up /a to say hi to your buddies. Don't use listplayers/namelog to out players/admins from their aliases unless there's a good reason (such as someone avoiding a ban). Yes you can use these info-type commands freely but don't act on their information without reason. Don't /cancelvote just because you don't want it to pass. Don't /passvote just because you want it to pass. Don't use /rename because you want to set your friends to have the same name as each other or otherwise not follow the naming restrictions in place. Don't use revert/denybuild for something unless it's so bad it must be griefing. Don't use putteam because your friends want to play together and asked you to.

People should not flood/spam each other. I don't care if it's in a PM to your buddy and he's in on this obviously hilarious joke. I will probably find it in the logs and ban you retroactively. Admins should especially not abuse their exemption from the flood protection system for such purposes.

If you are a player, doing callvote unmute or allowbuild on someone an admin has just muted or denybuilt will probably find you muted, kicked, or worse, because that's really a completely awful idea and you're anything but smart for considering it. If you think an admin has done something wrong, follow the processes outlined above by posting it in the forums. Callvote is not the place for that.

DO NOT USE ADMIN COMMANDS OR VOTEKICKS/MUTES WITHOUT GOOD REASON

It doesn't matter if it's a hilarious joke, late at night, just messing with your friend, or if "everyone was cool with it", or even just a player votekicking yourself. Treat these things with respect, and don't use them unless it's clearly a good idea, or you will no longer have them. There are plenty of other people waiting to take your admin spot, so think before you do such things.
