New Egg Model
« on: February 18, 2010, 11:16:47 pm »

The current egg model has some flaws:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y50/Drietand/TremulousAlienBuildings/Egghitbox.jpg
To balance the game(i think) the hit box is not the same size as the model of the egg its self, because it would be too easy to hit.
Here is a wip of the new model concept:

I made the model as small as the hit box (maybe its a little bigger). Also why the eggs in trem are so big? Dretches and Grangers are not so big. Rants don't spawn from eggs too -.-
I'm a noob at ZBrush, i'm not sure if i will be able to animate it... yet  :P
Any suggestions?

Whilst it is an interesting undertaking, I think that reducing the size of eggs to the size of the model would make them too inconspicuous and easy too hide.

While you bring up balance, I don't see where this factors in significantly.
Telenodes have a section that is visible but does not take damage.

I think it has been over a year since I have seen someone shoot the webbing of an egg instead of the base, so it's not THAT hard to figure out.

By no means am I saying "Stop, and give up", I'm just trying to give some polite criticism.
If you think this is a project worth undertaking, by all means, do so.

Please continue learning how to model though, many community concepts are finished with the exception of modeling.
The open source community could always use more modelers.

1) zbrush is not suitable for low poly models (it helps a lot with normals and texture though)
2) every 12 years old kid have a pirate version of zbrush... cool
3) is this a fleshlight model? IIRC they have an alien one

1) there are 2 ways i know of how to make it super low poly.
2) are you insulting me? i have a trial version. If you do not stop, please leave this thread.

Do you know how to model? I would like to see your models please.

@KillerWhale I understand.

As someone who has tried to make a new egg model myself in my (legitimate, full) version of zbrush, I can tell you that it's really not worth it, and that there is a reason for the hitbox size. If the hitbox were the same size as the model, dretches could not spawn inside the egg. (That was the reason not to change it last time, at least.)

I wanted to see the model in game anyway, but i didn't found a program to export the obj into md3, could you tell me some way i can get to test this model?

I am by no means an expert, but I'm pretty sure obj to md3 can be done through Blender.

Open the .obj in Blender, use an md3 export script.
I'm not sure how this treats textures and whatnot, but for just seeing it in game, it should be fine.

Sorry for being objective...

Erm well I'd do it in Blender,
your doing low poly and low poly organics are easy enough.

very nice!
Although, that does not look very low poly.
Also, as whales said, you can export to obj the import it into blender then get a export python script for md3. I don't know how well it will run though with all those polys...
