How do you download a new map on a mac

I know this is a newbie question. I know how to actually get the pk3 folder, but where do I put it? Tremulous/base doesnt seem to work. Either that or I dont know how to start a modded server. HELP!

The map (paint 9) shows up on my map list but when i try to switch to it ingame it says something like "paint9.bsp not found" and It wont let me start a server with paint 9 or any other maps a downloaded

Did you unpack/extract it??? If you did, redownload and just put the .pk3 in base folder.

But that would have to be set every time and doesn't work when you connect to another server. GeneralScott: when you download the map, does your web browser automatically extract it (.pk3 file is actually a .zip renamed)? IIRC some browser on mac did that. If yes, you'll need to disable that.

No, that is not needed at all for any properly set up .pk3s.

You should make sure it is still in pk3 format as PhoeniX said, and rename it if it isn't.

Well, i just unzip the pk3 file, and its a folder. Are you trying to say im not supposed to unzip it, just put the .zip file in Base?

You DO NOT UNZIP pk3s. Just put it where the other map files are.

ok, i got a new map to test this, because i learned that paint 9 is broken anyway (unless you do something to the command line) so i got this instead -http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=11402.0- I got the .zip file and put it in the /base folder, and then unzipped a copy and put the .pk3 in for good measure. Still nothing on my map list... I'm beginning to think i'm either really dense or just completely hopeless  :'(  ???

you... do.... not... unzip.... anything.

download the pk3, and when you see that it is finished downloading, drag and drop into your base folder.

Than open tremulous, and type /devmap mapname in your console.

When you downloaded the map 'Hard Landing', was the file type .zip, or .pk3? If it was .zip, then your browser is changing the file type (look at the links there, they are to a .pk3 file), so just rename it back to .pk3, and put it in Tremulous/base/ (do not re-zip any folders, get a new copy). Tho you said you unzipped it and put the .pk3 in too? After unzipping it is supposed to be a bunch of folders (or 1 folder named like the .pk3, depending on the software you use for unzipping) not a pk3 ???

 :)  ;D  :D  I got it! Thanks for tolerating my denseness. So you rename the .zip file i get when i download to a .pk3. ok, thanks, that worked and stuff  ;D
