I wonder how they found the game in the first place. You don't think they might hear about 1.2 through the same channel?
Well, i see your point. And i totally agree that there are a good number of players who are aware of 1.2
I think the main reasons people wont switch to 1.2 are this.
1) Significant portions of the tremulous community dont speak English.
2) A lot of people dont know the forums here exist.
3) When people first hear about this game, they google it or follow some download link someone else posted ages ago on some gaming website. (like how i heard about it back in '05) They download the game, install it, play, then thats it. They dont get involved anywhere, they dont join a community. They just load the game up and play when they feel like it. While there is nothing wrong with that, this people probably wont hear about 1.2 any time soon.
4) Tremulous isn't a single community. There seem to be lots of communities that revolve around the Game itself. Most of the servers have their own forums, admin staff, and some even have their own developers. While trem.net is the "official" forums and people here hold the keys to the master server and whatever else, the communities seem pretty segregated. This means that the 1.2 message isnt going to get out very uniformly. Even though trem.net is preaching the message, i think that unless all the other communities push for 1.2 we arent going to see as many people move as some might like.
5) I think even the trem.net community is divided over 1.2 Though i dont usually look at these forums, there seem to be a group of people that are upset about 1.2 and might not play it just one principle.
6) Finally, i think the very fact that 1.1 is staying will keep people on 1.1 People will go in game, and most of their friends will still be there who they always play with, and they wont really see a reason to switch to 1.2 Sure, the improved models and vanilla gameplay might appeal to people but people will prefer to play with their friends over the new gameplay.
