Hello at first,
These are some ideas of mine:
Character Models: Details are pretty much OK but I'd definitely like to see some variety in them, it gets a bit too repetitive when you constantly see the same human walking around with maybe some armor and/or some other stuff. I'd like to see some randomization in it. E.g. make humans spawn with a different model which is based upon ~6 different combinations of Hair styles/ clothes / Skin color (no racism intended) / body proportions and size. <- the size difference shouldn't be too extreme, it is harder to hit a human with the size of 1,60m than one with the size of 1,90m
Weapons:
Give the weapons the possibility to jam?
Let weapons break as well, due to high impact? <- realism would be a bit appreciated with that
New Weapons:
A more powerful blaster which can be purchased at an adequate price of ~100 as a secondary weapon. This should make it easier for some builders to defend themselves.
Tranquilizer - Primary Fire <- darts which slow enemy. Secondary Fire <- Darts which poison enemy. This would give it some more serious fighting as aliens seem to adore to poison humans with dretches and/or Granger barbs. Yet that weapon should cost around 200 creds so as to not be available to every newb to poison/slow teammates.
New Structures:
Humans:
A tractor beam sounds interesting. It should slow the enemies down a bit and/or even totally immobilize the smaller ones i.e. only dretches and grangers.(This effect cannot stack so as to even immobilize the larger ones... this would be too unfair?) This would make base raiding with dretches a bit harder thus possibly extending gameplay. It should cost about 10BP and should be accessible at S1 already. It's range should be adequate and/or its range of effect should degrade the farther away the alien is.
Grounded piece of metal? - Its use is to absorb the Adv Mara's zap so as to make it a bit easier to build a base whilst under attack. It's cost should be around 6 BP as it serves the purpose to absorb the mara's zap and or to block. It's size should be adjustable up to the size of an armory. But its disadvantage should be that the mara's Zap will still damage those building through which the zap has to travel in order to reach it. This should make it still fair but if well placed should keep the damage between itself and up to 2 objects around it.
Outpost - A simple hut which is used to provide humans with cover from alien attacks and/or even provide them with a Machine Gun so as to be a part of the defense. (This may encourage camping but its space is only limited for one) Its cost is 12BP, in my sight a reasonable amount as its ability can vary from useless to best thing ever happening to the defenses.
Aliens:
Crawlers, these defenses are rather dependent upon how well they are placed, they are like the outpost but these aren't controlled by the player. These Crawlers, just as the name states are crawling creatures which come in groups of around 8 and each have about 20hp. They re-spawn in their "hive"at about the rate of which the building points return. Surely they may seem strong in numbers at first but they are intended to rather distract and occupy than to really hurt. But on the other hand, they are smart enough to attack in groups 2-4 per target. They will jump around like a frenzy obscuring the opponents vision. These bugs are taking little damage from flamethrower and luci, they are quite resistant to heat which should reduce the damage taken from those weapons which could be recharged by reactor plus the flamethrower (this includes them being partially immune to painsaw´) available at S2.
Leeches: Once more creatures which move around at your base (just as the crawlers their boundaries should be decided) But on the other hand these move slower than crawlers but therefore have the sole purpose to trap humans and to leach life out of them for building close to them. This is happening at a slow process, i.e. Catching humans - leeching - going to nearest hurt structure - healing it. This should work on the basis of charging, no charge no power. Their cost is 4 per leech. This should make them a well-thought out placement. These are available at S1 already.
Aliens:
I have read in multiple threads that Scorpions look appropriate but personally I think this would ruin to an extent the flair of Tremulous style of Alien attacks and to defend. So instead I'd rather have some weird creature with somewhat the similar ability of a scorpion. According to that what I think is that the Aliens in Tremulous seem to be a mixture between insects and lizards. So I'd rather maintain this style to a decree.
A lizard like creature which has Characteristics of Scorpion (Chanole) <- my idea of a name [feel free to suggest alternatives]: Some may think that I am somewhat getting this idea from Alien (Alien vs Predator and etc) but I am not trying to copy the look of these nor give them the same abilities. As Aliens are based upon speed and mobility I'd have it be quite fast but it being somewhat incapable of jumping high but instead giving it the ability to pounce forward and knock the opponent backwards stunning them (or at least obscuring the vision a bit) thus giving it time to leash at the opponent with its tail in order to poison him. It should be accessible at whether S1 or S2 and have about 1ßßhp. This may sound a bit unfair but it can wall-walk, poison (if S2 should sound more appropriate this effect is a bit useless if booster if provided), it can pounce. But its disadvantages are, it cannot jump, it is quite long so aiming too high will become quite hard and lastly it should be harder to maneuver because of its length. especially whilst wall-walking. It should cost about 2-3 evos, preferably 2 1/2. It is not required to have an advanced stage of it but for mere adaption to the habit of Aliens having an advanced stage, its advanced stage should be capable of running faster and pouncing further. Primary Fire is pounce whilst secondary is Sting. Surely this make this a hard alien to control but if time is well-invested it can wreak havoc upon unknowing humans due to its ability to pounce and its ability to adapt to its surrounding (at S2)
Adv Tyrant: Just like the Normal tyrant but instead it is smaller and has 400hp. It has gained speed but it only deals 3/4 of the normal tyrants damage. This may sound a bit weird but its sole gain in speed and in hp plus the reduction of its size should be wroth the 3/4 damage as this may benefit those who prefer to rush but due to the tyrants enormous size cannot rush properly as it is too slow. Plus the adv tyrants rush will also deal only 3/4 damage but it will last longer and will definitely be faster but it will suffer the lack of mobility whilst rushing and as well the width of attack.
Some additions:
The amount of BP given to both teams should be adjusted a bit, instead of humans having only 100 and aliens 150 humans should have 15ß whilst aliens 225. Of course this may sound extreme but its sole purpose is to build a base which is capable of withstanding at least one or two attackers which seem to just hop/stay at distance.
Better animations when things die? They look a bit rusty and boring. Every human just falling... you can be sniped and just fall? Wow, this must whether be a very slow and painful dart or it just knocked the air right out of him"
Some more variety in the way things look. Every node looking the same? Give their "halos" different colors ? Plus give the alien structures some life, they are living things! No living thing sits stale for over 30 minutes doing nothing. Give them the ability to move a bit, even idle animation sounds fine. Even if it repeats, some movement is better than none, the reactor and the nodes are a nice example of what I mean with idle animation.
Attack vs creature > Attack vs Structure. This just is right, try shooting your friend and your computer, which thing is most likely to take least damage? I am saying that 2/3 - 3/4 damage should be fine and appropriate.
These are some of my ideas of what I'd like to see in 1.2 or even the next version of tremulous. 1.2.5 or 1.3
