Clean HUD
« on: April 05, 2010, 07:10:11 am »
Clean HUD is a new HUD customized from the stock 1.2 GPP HUD. With the stock HUD, I was annoyed by the low contrast text for health and ammo, and also their positions in different corners of the screen - all of this made it difficult to quickly assess the situation while in combat. Clean HUD is aimed to improve the visibility of essential in-game elements, and to reduce the time needed to seek information on the HUD. It is meant to be a clean and simple modification of the stock HUD.

    Major features
    • Health, ammo, and clips remaining are displayed within the center third of the screen.
    • Health is color-coded from 0-100 for humans, and from 0-200 for aliens; turns from green to red as health decreases.
    • Ammo indicator and clips indicator are both color-coded to warn when they run low.
    • Dragoon, tyrant, and lucifer cannon charge bars moved to a more visible position above crosshair.
    • Dragoon barbs vertically positioned below crosshair
    • Crosshair contrast increased.
    • Team overlay moved to bottom left corner, text size reduced, contrast increased.
    • Redundant graphics removed, remaining information all centered at the bottom.

    Minor features
    Humans and aliens:
    • Chat text size reduced.
    • Name of player in crosshair moved to above crosshair, size reduced.
    • Speedometer moved from the center to the bottom. Previously, it was unusable since it blocked the human scanner/radar.
    • "Spectating [player]" text size reduced.

    Human specific:
    • Stamina bars turn bright red when used up.
    • Scanner/radar height increased by 30%.
    • 'Sprint indicator' contrast increased.

    Alien specific:
    • 'Healing rate indicator' (i.e., the health cross) contrast increased.
    • 'Poison indicator' contrast increased.

That seems like it could be a bit distracting nad is a bit unsightly, but I'm sure it would work for many people. Congratulations on creating this.

That would be a speed meter, methinks.

I forgot to mention that I got my inspiration from Mexel's MUD HUD, which showed the ammo below the crosshair. I used to use that HUD, but it no longer works with 1.2 GPP, so I decided that I might as well create a new one.

@mooseberry: Thanks. Yes, it can be distracting at the start, but for me it was very convenient once I got used to it.

Yeah, the blue graph is the speedometer (enabled in the menu).

I'm going to update Clean HUD in a day or two - I was notified that the speedometer overlaps with the world time, and I also realized that the HUD alignments are not correct for widescreen resolutions (right now it only works correctly with a 4:3 resolution).

    Updated from 100405. Changelog:

    100408:
    • Speedometer moved to center bottom, previous position blocked the clock (thanks Cl!).
    • Human weapon indicator replaced by health cross.
    • Added stage report to bottom left corner.
    • Alignment issues for widescreen resolutions fixed.
    • Moved all game-info to lower left, meta-info stays in top right.
    • "Spectating [player]" text moved back to center for visibility, text size reduced.

The download link in the original post has been updated.

New version works fine. Would be nice if the clock is still on the right... Not a big problem however, only personal.

Thanks Ironclaw for all the goodwork.

Could you make it so the Full screen radar is optional?

Do you mean the 30% increase in radar height, or are you asking for an implementation of an optional full screen radar?

The original clayborn fullscreen. But now that I have been using the hud without it. I don't really need it. Thanks for replying.

Please increase the size of the font so that they cover the entire screen, not just nearly 50%.

Nice HUD. I use Mexel's HUD in 1.1, so this is great.

I wish I had mexel's hud. I could never get a good link. Btw colors are not my favorite. I'm working on a Black and White, with fullscreen radar and otic's dot crosshairs.

I'm sorry. I won't put in chatmenu. I allready have my binds. If you want a chantmenu take the one from volt. I'm making this HUD for me. It's what I want. Maybe later I'll make a HUD that I'll take from the general demand.
