Its called augmented reality. Its all about combining the real world with the virtual world. Here is how it works: The camera detects the symbol on the card (which is called a marker). The camera is plugged into a comupter, which then in real time converts the card into a 3D graphic object. Often, the user wears a headset so he can walk around the marked and see the object from different angles

Application in tremulous: You are sitting at your kitchen table. Before you, a 3D representation of the game sits before you. You can walk around the table and see it from any angle. THe game would be the same, it would just be a different view of it.

First of all, that idea is absolute genius.

But I can't see much use for it in Tremulous, a FIRST-PERSON shooter. This would be absolute gold for RTS games, or even for just plain Third-Person games. But it really isn't worth the trouble for FPS games. Even for grangers, that's like having one insanely expensive monitor just to be able to build structures. o_O

its a great idea BUT with one flaw you would have to wear a full suit full of sensers and a laser scanner that can move REALLY fast to proses your constant movement and two duel cameras that are positioned perfecatlly parallel and a software program which builds a wire frame as you go,

ok many flaws. but i still love the idea... do you reckon you can do the above!??

Well thats the beutifull thing about it. Its not expensive at all! You only need a camera and the software.

I think this would fit coolest for MMORPGs though.

It would only work for RTS games, in that form anyway. Problem with MMOs and FPS games is you can't play them on some small spinny wheel thing. For an FPS you'd use something like VirtuSphere, not sure what you'd use for a third person thing.
