Maps for GPP Official Servers
« on: May 05, 2010, 12:24:40 am »
These are all playable, serious maps that I'd like to see on the GPP official servers.

CargoPort

Powergrid

Wrecktify

Pump Station

Waveform (Perhaps this map's not good enough. The screenshots in the levelshot have nothing to do with the map itself.)

Dryout

Pulse

Spacetracks

Uranium (Too much empty space between the bases?)

These maps aren't on US1, but I'm not sure if they're on EU1, since EU1 has micro_sim while US1 does not.

Wasn't Pulse being refurbished, so to speak, by one of the devs?

Not one of the devs.  Taiyo. :D

I'm not so keen on having cargoport on the list since it was one of my early mapping attempts and quite frankly, it sucks (and lags horribly, because there is absolutely no optimization).

Spacetracks - I guess.
Pulse - Sure, I like it.  I know that it's said to be quite buggy, though.
Uranium - I don't recall this map.
Dryout - Yes!  Lots of empty space, but I think it should atleast be voteable.
Waveform - Meh.  Not a fan, but why not.
Pumpstation - Absolutely!!
Wrecktify - YES!
Powergrid - Yeah.

Yep, need new maps to official servers.

(Offtopic: I'm one trying to make new maps that should fit both 1.1 and 1.2gpp, but we'll see that. :P)

Yes, it's still bit buggy on some parts. On doors while speccin. So... Taiyo, would finish it?  :) It's best map, IMHO. Would like to see more in official servers.

Waveform? yeah, not bad. Or actually, more than good map.
Spacetracks.... eeeh, aa, uum... guess we could try....
Dryout? uuuh.... don't know. Even as i've played that many times.
Others on that list? Don't know much of them.

And what about Groundsource?

I don't like dryout at all really... the human's base inside that stupid truck thing (or w/e) stalls games long. It is literally the perfect vehicle for camping (pun intended). So humans rarely leave their base and the whole outside area is completely pointless.

Really the bar to make something vote-able is pretty low. As long as its gameplay reasonably attempts to be a Tremulous map it's probably fine.

I added everything suggested here (to both servers) except for Dryout. When I was flying around, I had my doubts about it. Then I saw the human base and that was /cancelvote for sure.

[edit]I also used mapconfigs to disallow maps from messing with BP, gravity, speed, or stages. Pulse and Infested Pump Station both do this otherwise, which also ends up affecting all maps played after them. AKKA vets will remember how much that sucks.

[edit2]
These maps aren't on US1, but I'm not sure if they're on EU1, since EU1 has micro_sim while US1 does not.
No it doesn't? The lists should be and are the same as each other. I just checked them both.

WTF? Isn't default.cfg (in mapconfigs/ IIRC) supposed to be exec'd before every round, and thus be able to undo such changes? IIRC Pulse messed with gravity? Disabling that change in pulse *could* affect gameplay, but I dunno. Depends how the map was designed to be played (whether there was a reason for gravity change). What did Infested Pump Station modify?

pulse also sets the stage thresholds to ~an order of magnitude lower than 1.2 defaults, so it has to be there. pulse's mapconfig can set the proper gravity.

Please, please, please, please remove cargoport.  As I said, there is no optimization.

As I said, there is no optimization.

Then people should get a computer capable of dealing with that fact. Such a method has worked for years (marsbase anyone?)

And also, when I made it (who knows why), I think first there was cargoport 106, then 101, then 102.  But in 106, the entire map is visible from any point iirc.  I think 102 is slightly better.

Pump Station and Pulse both modified stage thresholds. Open either of them, join a team, and press tab. It's way too low.

Pulse also modified gravity.

Personally I couldn't give a crap if the map designers wanted these maps to be played with modified settings. Official servers are made to be a place where the game is played with standard settings. If the maps prove to not play well with standard settings we will remove them.

Really.. cargoport... To be honest it is not playable for many people. That is good advice to get a good computer Thorn, but unfortunetly is not an option for some people. A bit like telling people to pick a better location to live in because their house was built poorly and it gets too cold in the winter.

I hope face isn't too disapointed, but I would vote take it out of the rotation as far as I can see. I use a decent little laptop, which is not meant for gaming no, but it can handle tremulous fine on most occasions, but I get 0 fps.

We were planning on making a b3 of FAIL to fix the base layouts and some other stuff.  (The bases are much too close together, but the map is still fun to play in.  Maybe a rename as well, heh.)

I happened to play few times of map called Takana_b1. It is bit dull map, but seems to quite large, and seems to got good base spots for all over place.

But need someone to verify, would this be good for official servers.

Perhaps add Mercy for test play although I think it won't play that good.

Still, a really nice-looking map.
