I've never played on Satgnu - I live in Australia where the choice of <100 ping servers is pretty limited. GameArena is the most popular, but it has no admins at all.
One day on GameArena, some idiot connected and started deconning, but since that server still runs the 1.1.0 code and has no admins, all we coulld do was callvote kick repeatedly. Eventually one of the votes didn't pass in time and he rejoined. He started flooding the chat with "SATGNU MUST DIE!!!!!!" lagging the game to unplayability, we had no choice but to leave the server.
Well, that was the last straw that made me say, "Screw this, I have a good connection and a spare PC, I'll set up my own server - one that is FULL of admins."
So I did, and the server was up for a while. It was great. I was very much the 'Zero Tolerance' admin; so you like to join and decon? Permaban, no warning. I set level 1 up with ability to kick and protection from callvote kick; we had no problem with griefers at all.
Ah, happy days.
Sadly, after a few weeks it was all to much for the old hard drive that machine was using to run tremulous and also to boot from. I can only assume that keeping the log files open for writing 24/7 for a few weeks was what finally pushed it over the edge.
So the hard drive collapsed, and the machine wont start at all. At best I could put a new drive in it and start from scratch, but I lost trem and a lot of old emails and that sort of thing, not to mention it was the printer server here as well.
Anyway, what I am getting at is, if you put 2 and 2 together here, it's plain to see that it's all Lava Croft's fault my old machine died, because he obviously started the chain of cause and effect that eventually led to me starting the server. So, basically, Lava Croft owes me a new computer.
