Having multiple problems
« on: May 30, 2010, 10:19:46 pm »
Im running Ubuntu 10.4

1. Sound starts echoing after a few min of playing...then starts saying "dropping sound"

2.It doesnt seem to save my settings. Like binds , favorite servers etc.
Like if i save a server as a fav, then restart, its not there anymore.

3. When i type somthing in the console it says couldnt write auto.cfg or somthing similar

I would also like to know how to update my client, because the server keeps telling my to do so.

If you could help me with one or more of these issues, that would be great. Thanks :D

The sound thing is probably caused by pulse audio, most sound problems are.

2 and 3 are both the same problem, probably caused by dud permissions somewhere.  Deleting ~/.tremulous should fix it.

You can get an updated client at http://projects.mercenariesguild.net/projects/mgclient/files , you need to copy the new client over the old one, if you used the ubuntu package it's probably at /usr/lib/tremulous/tremulous

Thanks David, I got that autogen.cfg error fixed. Its now saving things.

I just renamed the file and then started trem to find it made a new dir with read write access.

I still cant update my client tho :(
The fille tremulous.x86 was in /usr/local/games/tremulous/tremulous.x86

so i delted that one then put the new one in and no luck.

What do you mean no luck? Are you saying the client won't start or that you're still getting told to update your client? If you're still getting told to update try opening up a terminal and type

"which tremulous" This will tell you which file is actually being run when you run "tremulous". You might also want to check what your desktop icon is linking to. You can also try

"which tremulous |xargs cat" which will output the contents of the file that is being run when you run "tremulous". If that gives you anything intelligible (in other words, if that's not the actual tremulous binary) that might be worth posting.

You could also get a new client Here. I recommend this anyways.

you can't put it in there without root permission im a ubuntu 9.10 user and I know you shouldn't delete ./tremulous all you have to do is reinstall it and reapply the updated client in ./tremulous (in your home folder) if you go into view (at the top) then select show hidden files then you'll see .tremulous (or something like it) then put it in there it's simple (it might work) I always had problems with the linux client so I used wine ("www.winehq.org") then got the windows client and updated it ASAP then presto (also set your sound to alsa) since it's the only best sound driver that actually works best with ubuntu...

HOPEFULLY this works <--I always wanted to say that ^_^

What solved the problem? Also you might want to edit the topic title to put in [solved]
