Is there anywhere I can get a copy of the acts map. Or someone who has made a copy of the acts map? It would be very much appreciated!
I mean the .map file of course (not the .bsp or .pk3)

Well,

If you can - and know - do .pk3 to .zip.... it's all about that. And once you know how to make .pk3 to .zip and vice versa, do same to atcs.

And the mysteries of .maps are revealed....

Except there is no .map file in the stock atcs pk3, and decompiling is a buggy pile of pain.

If you have any luck getting hold of it I wouldn't mind playing around with the layout either.

Jez says it all- there is no .map file in the acts.pk3 archive, only a .bsp. And yes I can convert a .pk3 to .zip and vice versa (because it's the same thing).

Well it's actually me who needs to learn to spell. And I think they understood (well hopefully). In my mind I sounded it out like acts because even though it's an accronym it's not deliminated by punctation and it's much easier then pronouncing it how it's actually "spelled".

atcs - "aah-t-k-ss"
acts - "aah-k-ss" like "axe" (I don't pronounce the "t").

There inlies the problem.

So to clear up all confusion. I'm talking about the most played map on most servers in the original set of maps. Spell A.T.C.S which mean Advance Tactical Combat Simulator. So now does anyone have a copy? lol

Well I need a map everyone is familiar of so that my addition makes more sense. That's all I can say. Most of the gameplay does not involve being in atcs but it's more of the starting area.

Well if its any help, the stock tremor and arachnid2 pk3s have map files in, so you could use them. Incidentally, before the sanitised gpp version, tremor had a mess outside the map of unfinished components, which was an interesting little insight into the mapping process.

I have to agree. I think it truly does not embody the Linux spirit to take something that is originally open source, add to it, and pass it on closed source. (Then you'l just be Apple). Dark legion studious ought to release it open source with a creative commons license. And I think I will probably release the Nintendo Land maps as open source

Well I suspect if you know who to ask you could get the original atcs .map, I doubt they really care.(the problem is who has it)

I just decompiled the ATCS bsp. 1 minute of work really. It will of course not have any brushes set to detail, but that's not really a problem with ATCS (except for the compile time) because most surfaces inside the space where you move/play are flat. The decorations don't add much to the vis situation. Except outside above the entrances and on the map "shoulders" maybe.

I included a readme:

_BSP2MAP.bat (batchfile for conversion - just in case you don't know how this works)

_BSP2MAP_output.txt (the console output from the conversion)

map-gmotw_atcsraped_002-1.1.0.pk3 (A map that I made based on an ATCS deconversion. It includes the map file. This one does NOT use alternate texture projection because I used a different conversion method - and had to fix most textures manually)

Well at least you are mature about it.

To my knowledge half the users are Linux users. Tremulous is one of the few games that can easily be installed from a synaptic package manager and doesn't require custom installation (before tremfusion of course). So yes, I assume one or more people in the development team is a Linux user- either in the tremulous development team or quake development team. Most people that make games or software available to Linux users but aren't tied to it usually release them uncompiled and let the community do the work. It's all speculative but I'm going to bank on this. Also, somewhere along the line it became open source, and anyone who edits a program that is open source ought to release it as open source- it is the spirit of open source! This is the Linux mentality and I will refer to it as the Linux mentality even if it is politically incorrect. But I have a feeling that the developers use Linux.

Why the fact that some developers used linux means Thorn should release his copy of ATCS, and not doing so is anti-linux, I have no idea.
