Strange Feeezing Situation
« on: June 16, 2010, 02:06:45 am »
For some reason, when I play trem, sometimes I freeze in place randomly. What's weird is that I can see all the action going on around me, and even see my HP go down when an enemy attacks me, I just can't do anything. When I press tab the score is blank. And when I type, I can see what I type, but when I enter the text, it doesn't show up in-game until I am unfrozen, which also will happen randomly. This happens in both GPP and 1.1. It's really confusing. Is this a problem with my trem, or internet, or computer, or what?

I had this problem as well, however it was most definitely due to very poor internet connection for gaming. What I think was happening is that my school ISP was throttling my upload, but not download, to the server. Make sure you can see your lagometer and frame rate, so that when this happens you can know roughly what kind of trouble you're having. If it was a problem with your computer, then your framerate would drop, if its an internet problem you'll either see yellow at the top of your lagometer, or at the bottom. Top is missing packets, bottom is the packets taking too long. If neither of these happen, it could be a problem with tremulous, or with your tremulous configuration (/exec default.cfg, and reset the settings you really need), but I think its an internet problem.

Equilibrium, use the lagometer (cg_lagometer 1) and see what the lagometer is doing when you freeze like that.
