Mission_one_b2 would not be proper as this name implies that it's the second official beta. Or, rather, there's nothing to imply that it's not official.
Mission_two_b1 would not be proper as this name implies that it's a completely different (or, at best, similarly themed) map, which it isn't. It's simply a modification.
Mission_one_b1_pb01 would be the best possible name as it implies that it is a separate and unofficial version of the same map.

What's wrong with a little bit of organization you lazy, conservative asshats? Besides, who's bloody fuckin' business is it how someone names their goddamned map so long as it isn't completely and totally guideline breaking and busting and fucking up. This is not an arbitrary way of naming a map and it merely builds on the already existing scheme of map naming.

Drazilox, that's a strawman argument, and you know it. I never meant for the name to become that long and complicated. In case you don't know what a strawman argument is: You pretend that the discussion partner is holding a different standpoint than he's really holding. Then you destroy the fake standpoint easily. I think your post can best be disregarded.

Quote from: A Sporkin the map name is just tacky(and makes the name of the map get too long for my tastes, I dont want to write a paragraph to vote for a map >.>)

A strawman argument, too. Paragraph?

Look here: Is "skybox" really so much better than "gmotw_skybox"? Can you be sure that the quite simple term "skybox" is not already taken (or will soon be taken) by another mapper?

I think that it's safe to assume that the probability for name collisions in the coming years will be higher than it was till today. Because the Tremulous file world is growing. And that growth is accelerating, because the populace is growing and more people are mapping.

Also, it's not a null-argument to keep all one's maps in one alphabetical place in the big map repositories. The grouping feature of Radiant is a nice bonus.

A map is a map, and that's that.

Look biggest tremulous map repository. And if someone is making same named map than you. Release it first, so you can blaim that he stole it!
<hr>
So, in my style it would be dMission_one_b7 :p

All my tremstuff is renamed with that layout. dMod, dQVM, dBinds.

I love it when people don't understand words.
When you name Mission_one_b1, Mission_two_b1 or Mission_one_b2, that is simply dumb. It's a foolish naming scheme. I gave you an example of what works. You don't have to use it, but it's sure as hell better than your arbitrary and nonsensical naming schemes.

CreatureofHell: There's a difference between being inventive and pulling a random name out of your ass for every space station you make. The main feature in Skybox is (quite obviously) the skybox and the angles you can see it at. Therefore he named it Skybox. Simple to figure out. It's better than Gamma Station or Pegasus Station or Janice-051 because those names don't mean anything. Skybox is simply the most reasonable and sensible choice.

But no one else has named their map skybox in all the years trem has existed because it's such a boring name and perhaps because their maps are actually about gameplay instead of a skybox.

Why should I do research, name my map, only to find out later that my research wasn't thorough enough? Or that someone else didn't do research and named his map skybox, so that my map and their map would have colliding filenames?

Also, how many map names actually refer to the gameplay itself, huh? Another strawman, I'd say.

Man, this is like whack-a-rat.

This.

The name of a map has nothing to do with how the map plays. In fact, I can't think of a single map that has a name that will accurately and with any great detail describe how it plays. How does Cerberus, Medusa, Gamma Core, Watah, Thermal, or Zealous refer to the gameplay of their respective .BSPs?

God, you're not playing whack-a-mole; You're skeet shooting at elephants.

Map names referring to gameplay.

I don't think that this idea is really so stupid. For example, someone could call their map "onslaught" if it were just a corridor with bases at each end - like Drazilox' GrungeZZ (not the final version).

Also... "Advanced Tactical Combat Simulator"?

But anyway: I got the idea "naming after gameplay" from your text. I guess you meant it differently. I read "no one else calls their map after a thing because their maps are about gameplay (so they call them after the game situation).

Quote from: CreatureofHellno one else has named their map skybox [...] perhaps because their maps are actually about gameplay instead of a skybox.

In other words: "No one else has named their map Transit because their maps are actually about gameplay instead of a train." [...Metro... ...a train station.] [...church... a church.] I mean, really. Metro and Church are such obvious names. But somehow, for you, "Skybox" is different.

I think we can both agree that you just somehow wanted to throw dirt, no matter how hollow the argument. I have too much time right now, or I wouldn't waste my time poking at Internet kids.

Can we cut this short and arrive at the "no u" already?

My "arbitrary and nonsensical naming scheme" ? I don't have a naming scheme. I could care less about mission one copies or how they are named. I was just laughing at your overzealous response to said topic. Look, everyone, it is a map name... this isn't about life or death. I personally think sticking your name in your map sounds dumb and is realistically unnecessary given the size of tremulous' mapping community, but if maker wants to do that... why do I care? On the other side, naming your map something original (as this topic has degenerated into an argument about map naming in general, not just the mission one issue) is fine... it has worked many times over in the past because... why wouldn't it? This is a very silly argument.
