if you are using a router to connect internet you should forward the specific ports to your computer

Like vcxzet said, you will need to forward the port to your local IP. I am guessing the default port is something like 27960 or so something similar. You need to go into your router (assuming you have one) and foward that port to the IP address of your server, which appears to be 192.168.0.6.

If you have done that already, can anyone connect to your server if they specify your public IP address?

192.168.0.1 is not your ip address in the internet. it is only the ip address by which your router recognizes your computer (the connection between your comp and your router is a little LAN). to get your real ip address, you can check out http://per-dix.de/myip.php .
You can also get your ip address by viewing your server's "info" in the server browser.

Zone alarm.....that might be your problem. I had it once and it blocked everything, even if it was turned off and shut down in every way. i had to delete the whole program from hard drive to be able to access the net. Of course, in those 3 first seconds that i was connected to net without firewall, 24 viruses attacked me and jammed my computer  :( . but try changing your firewall.

{{i have been playing with computer since the ZX-80 so im its not like i dont know what a LAN is. }}

Ok.

{{thing is , connecting Through the Loopback adapter works or for those of u who dont know 127.0.0.1.}}

K. So Trem run! :D

{{i am using Zone alarm as firewall}}

DING!.. zone alarm bad, software firewalls bad, hardware firewalls good.

{{ on all computer and router firewall is off. i have even tried quiting zone alarm on my DNS and my computer and then trying it but still no go.}}

You can use netcate to pipe whatever data is send to port 26000 to the screen. Then send something to that port from a computer of a friend on other location. If data can enter, theres not conexion problems. If the other guy cant even ping, of course theres a problem.

{{i think im gonna install Linux and try that.}}

Whatever. You will learn TONS with linux.

{{what is weird is the Master server has noticed me but sais that im am timeout.}}

You to master:
Hello, I am alive. My Ip is 127.0.0.1
Master to you:
ERROR: failed conexion to 127.0.0.1

yea, thats can be because you aren't really reachable from the master server ip :I ..but, of course, you can access internet.
means: ports are not forwarded.

{{DNS is on a fixed lan ip but rest of computers are Dynamic ip.
Internet ip is not static or dynamic. its a Sticky ip unfortuanely}}

My english is bad, but from the smell of this is wrong. DNS will point to your router 299.299.299.299, and the router will forward the port to your computer 192.168.0.33. Having "DNS fixed to ip lan" seems totally wrong.

whatever.myip.com -}} 192.168.0.33  wrong!!.
whatever.myip.com -}} 299.299.299.299  ok!

Commodore 64 is better!

screw windows go install linux.
windows has some parts that is unknown by all (except M$) and it is not about being open source. They are hiding some details that prevent some projects like wine, reactos.
install linux and get the control of your computer back

It sounds to me like you just need to find out your real IP address which is not 192.168.0.1
And if you have a dynamic IP address that can be tricky.

There are plenty of websites that will tell you what your IP is, google for some.

dude wtf have i said for the last 2 posts? i know what my ip is!

Karvinen , the reason u had to uninstall zone alarm was becuase even when u quit it , Truevector still runs in the background.

Teiman.  There is nothing actually wrong with sticky IP's . its just ISP's way of tracking you easier without giving u a static ip.

Dns should be a fixed ip on the LAN

i have been trying new distro's of linux for a while , and their all shit. Ubuntu being the worst.Tremulous seems to play fine on ''Xandros'' yet i cant host a server, that causes an instant crash.

Hardware firewalls may be good . but right now i cant be arsed turning sorting out the Router firewall.

Seriously ? According to my experience 'Ubuntu' is the most user-friendly Linux distro there is. I am playing tremulous on Ubuntu, and I am hosting a (stable) server on Debian. Both worked out of the box!
I am not sure what your problem really is. But from my personal experience I can recommend Ubuntu, if you also want to use your trem-server-computer as a Desktop System, and a "light" Debian version, if the computer with the tremulous server is just an "invisible" box somewhere in your room that you do not rely on. :)

i agreee Linux is 10x better for servers. Hell aint it ironic that M$ use it for their servers? well its true.
 this is not for a 24/7 game server anyway. MDc will get a real server for that.
  unfortuantely i dont have money for spare boxes that dont do anything. i have 1 comp and its old tech as it is. but it will do a server.

I need to check my upload speed on my 8mb that im getting next week. should handle 5 people on 1mb up?

i know, i read somewhere (forget where, i think it was these forums) that most broadband connections can handle ~6 people on the server, most broadband connections have an upstream speed of 256Kb/sec, so by that measurement you can have ~24 people on your server, which is definitely more than your cpu can handle if you plan on running the client at the same time
