For the Rifle and stuff
« on: June 25, 2010, 01:40:31 am »
Can make it Fire faster? I think the rifle depletes ammo too slow, maybe at the start the rifle fires dead on target and soon recoil kicks in so people actually burst fire  :-\    Maybe slow down aliens? and humans(or slow down movement on humans only?)and make the combat more fluid and the issue with "lag"(Whats causing lag :o)  Humans shoulden't have the similar movement speed as aliens, and with making humans slower the weapons can be made to fire faster to combat the agility of the aliens I think this is called balancing

And for a change for 1.2 how about having darker maps, and a flash light?  so that aliens can actually be stealthy easily.
Something is wrong with the combat of the beta, maybe to fast? everything about speed I don't know but the beta feels like something is missing..

The rifle as-is is a very powerful weapon, and there is no recoil, literally.
Making the rifle any more powerful would be heavily unbalancing, as much as I would love it.

Humans really don't move that fast, considering the movement needs that humans have.
If humans were slowed to match the speeds seen in the ever-so-common "realistic" shooters, it would absolutely cripple their abilities to fight.

Tremulous is more based on movement than aim. If humans were slowed and the rifle were powered up, it would encourage camping at the ends of hallways and really just create a pretty boring game.

As for flashlights and shadows, I believe that is a technical limitation rather than a design decision.
It's been discussed before, try using the search button.

I think the rifle is too strong as is..  I think the rifle could even stand to do 4 dmg but have 35 shots per clip.  So having nearly the same damage per clip, but decreasing the dps (or you could just raise the repeat).

To the contrary, yes, the rifle is too powerful for it's free price. A damage decrease to 4 wouldn't hurt.

I don't know. If it would be 4 damage per shot, I would like to keep its max damage normal. Thus, rifle clip size = 37 (Currently maximum damage done with 5 per shot, 150.)

I'll need to think this through.

So making the rifle fire faster and actually adding recoil so that people burst fire is overpowered? if the rifle is too strong wouldn't it be better to make the damage less?  As technology advance, Guns are always better then claws so I can understand your point about camping in hall ways but I think that goes to map design fault, aliens have good agility and should be stealthy after all.. I hope in 1.2 there would be new alien models to reflect stealth

The movement speed I think you're right any thoughts on limiting the damage all aliens give to humans and then making human slower to compensate?
For flash lights well I just hope the Devs notice that giving a flash light in a dark alien map, gives a lot of atmosphere....

If you want to keep the clip doing the same damage, but want the power of the weapon (dps wise) the same, would increasing the fire rate not be a more logical solution than decreasing individual bullet damage?

For reference the current repeat time is 90ms, i.e. 11.1 shots per second.
