Problems installing on Ubuntu

I get this error when I run the setup:

did you download trem from the repo?

if so, completely remove the package with synaptic, and then install it again.

or

you could just download it from the trem site, decompress it, and then right click on the tremulous executable and set execute permissions.

then double-click and go!

It's possible that it was a bad download, you could always try again.

ummm.... it's impossible to tell weather he got it from the repo or not from his post

I removed and reinstalled via Synaptic, and now I get this:

Um, just a wild guess, but try reinstalling your hud if you have one, if not, try reinstalling your vm's.

i notice that the text you posted has "amd64" are you running pure64bit OS
i think when i first changed to 64bit the 1.1.0 installer didn't work and i had to manually extract the files and install the game manually

then you want to login as root use su or something and copy the files and set permissions

chown -R root:root ./
chmod -R 755 ./


make sure when you run it you use /usr/local/games/tremulous as your working directory and i recommend upgrading to a newer client after you install it

Well we spent a couple of years trying to convince them that running a buggy server without the users knowledge spamming up the net was a bad idea, but they seem to really hate their users.  I've given up on ever trying to get ubuntu to do the right thing.
Although there's probably now users who installed the game, never could play it, and are (without knowing it) running a server >_>.
